I just got some Westone UM1s....
I just got some Westone UM1s purchased on Bay for 96.00 shipped (not bad). They don't have major "thump" but they have decent low end and a very crisp, detailed sound, and lots of headroom for volume. I wasn't looking forward to using the foam tips but they are very comfortable in the ear and they reall stay put without much fuss. I may switch to silicon tips. I understand the Ec3,4 and 5 tips are compatible but if I had to stay with the foamies, I'd still be happy. The cord quality and length is perfect. Hopefully, they'll warm up a tad but overall I am very happy with them. In pictures they have a similar form factor to E2c (which I returned) but they are much more comfortable, seem less bulky and have a better sound...to me.

Hey, glad you like the UM1s...out of all the earphones I've tried, I found the UM1s most comfortable.

uh oh... I may be losin' the love already. After using the UM1s for a couple of days, I just did an A/B test with my OEM CX300s and the fullness and thump blew me away as if I didn't know what I was missing. I'll continue to give the Westones a fair chance but this is a little dissapointing.

Most of the companies that make the high-end I.E.M.s (Shure , U.E. , Westone) carry their particular "sound signature" to the lower end products of the line. Since the bread and butter of these companies has been very expensive I.E.M.s for musicians that signature is usually based on accurate reproduction of the sound and alot of detail through the mid and higher frequencies. Not alot of bass as you say but at the same time not an artificially colored sound. It's really just a preference thing , give them some time or you may find they are not for your tastes.
