Carelessness of iPods in school!

In my school I have noticed a lot of people don't care about their iPods. I see TONNES of iPods each and every single day and none of them ever have cases! Also the girls changing rooms in our school are open through out lunch break so we can hang out in there and someone left their iPod Mini just lying on a bench (as you guessed it , no case!) on Friday and it was still there on Monday! Luckily one of my friends put it to the office before it got stolen! In register class our teacher read out the announcements and it started with , "Two iPods have been found. If you have lost one please go to the office!". Do people care anymore? And also one of my non-iPod owning friends said I was over protective of my iPod just because I bought a case for it!

Counterpoint:

I don't carry my iPod around in a case. First of all, I don't like what that implies ... that I couldn't afford to replace it if it were it to become too scuffed or broken. If my iPod gets a big ugly scratch on it, it's going in the garbage.

And don't jump to conclusions about iPods being left around...my kids will occassionally leave one of theirs (they each have two minis and a nano) around the playground so that one of the poorer students might pick it up, and then they can report it stolen. It's called fun.

So please don't assume we're stupid - we just don't have to re-mortage our house in order to have a few iPods handy.

wow i can't believe people just leave their ipods around just like taht. and people turn them in. If it were me i'd get really greedy, and have a big ipod family.

it's hard to believe that people just leave them around. maybe no one steals them because everyone has one there? and no, getting a case for your ipod doesn't mean you're overprotective of it.

They'll start thinking they can get crap handed to them whenever they want. Besides that, if they're that "poor", do you think they would have a computer, internet access, and the knowledge to put songs on the iPod?

I Dont like Cases, they make your ipod fatter and bigger, However, i do use a mmm how to sayit in english, a Plastic protector for the screen (Didnt find a better word xD but u know what im talking about) Because I have my life on my jeans
Left Pocket on the Front -- Cellphone and sometimes my wristwatch
Right Pocket on the Front -- Ipod and Palm
Left Pocket on the back - My Car Keys and Coins
Right Pocket on the back - My wallet and my Tridents (I cant live without tridents :()

So as you can see, I should put a case to my ipod, but i wont xD.

Your kids sound like spoiled rich snobs and your probably gonna buy them BMW's on there 16th birthday. Your kids leave there pods on the playground on purpose? That sucks for the poor kids your kids are ignorant jack@$$', what kind of fun is that, make the poorer kids jealous.

Back on topic, I have an Ipod video so I got a case, I'm poor so this was like a car for me when I got it. I take it to school and check my pocket every 5 minutes to make sure its there, I got a case so it won't scratch so I can enjoy my ipod for a long time to come

For starters...that was sarcasm from the post.

Second, what difference does it make if someone buys their kid a BMW on their 16th birthday?

And to link the original post with the BMW comment...what business is it of yours what people do with their Ipods, BMW's, or anything else. If someone wants to go out and buy 3 Ipods just to juggle them while they are lit on fire, who cares? You've got yours, right? Great! That's all that matters!

Somegods: You're weird. I understand not everyone has $40 to buy a new leather case for their ipod but that's why Ipod supplies you with a nice plastic/leather pouch. Its just a way to protect your investment, especially if you care about it.

And for another thing, I am SICK AND TIRED of people saying that people with ipods are rich kids. Yes, some of them may be priviliged, but not all of them get their ipods handed down. I had to work a whole year on a paper route and save up some money to split the ipod cost with my mom, 50/50. I only paid 80 bucks and saved over $250 but still. People work hard for luxury items and its not fair to just get labeled as a 'rich kid' just because you have such an item. Some people are just stupid, jealous and don't stop to think that some kids nowadays work hard for what they get.

</End rant>

I always find it interesting/funny how people go off on tangents in these threads. This was a thread on carelessness of iPods at school, and now we are talking about whether or not it is ok for someone to buy their kids BMW's on the 16th birthday. Don't get me wrong I fall into the same trap, but lets try to stay on track. So anyone seen any good movies lately? :)

I can always go with X-men 3 but then again, that is a whole new tangent. I too am amazed at people leaving their Ipods around. I teach high school and I swear at least once a day I have a MP3 player of some sort left in my room. Maybe I should just upgrade from my nano for free! (kidding people, kidding)

please people let's not go off topic here.

but since we're at it...
my family is a bit wealthy, i hate using the word rich first off just to let you know.

However, my parents told me I won't get a car until I'm 18, and it won't even be new either. I guess I'll hve to drive around a moped or something. But this goes to show you that "rich kids" don't always get every single thing, luxury item or something like that. (oh and just in case you're wondering, the reason why i'm getting an old car is just because i don't think they trust me at such a young age with a brand new car.)

I got good grades in school and I never got a car. I bought my first car while in college. I can understand someone's parents buying them a car for getting good grades, but not a freaking BMW. I don't care how much money you have. No flipping 16 year old needs a BMW.

^ I personally wouldn't want a 745. I wouldn't want to put gas in a land barge like that.

I got a new car at EIGHTEEN, not 16, because I needed one for my job. Before that I drove a crap car like most other kids. I like my car and am very grateful. Probably more so than I would be if I was given a huge BMW.

And for what it's worth, my iPod had a case until I got over it and now I use it without. I am planning on getting a new one soon, so I might as well enjoy the one I've got.

# 47 Re: Carelessness of iPods in school!
Anyone who just leaves their iPod around is most likely just careless about their stuff.

As for me, I bought my 60 GB 5th Gen iPod with a combination of money from my birthday, mowing lawns, allowance, doing odd jobs around my grandma's house, and from selling my iPod shuffle.

I get very good grades in school (not trying to brag, just saying) and my parents have well paying jobs, but they would never give me a car, at least not a good one (originally, my dad bought me a used Jeep Cherokee for $800 from my uncle, but it would've taken too much money to make it run well). My dad did promise me $4,000 toward my first car, so I'll have to come up with the $8,000 - $16,000 myself (I would rather get a new car if I'm getting any sort of aid in the purchase).

I also found it funny how people can wave their iPod around, keep it hooked to their belt, or give it to other people and not worry how it might be stolen.

Last year I wrapped my iPod mini up in old math assignment, and put it in a section and burried it under a bunch of assignments. When I went to get it out at the end of the school day, it was nowhere to be found. Funny enough, they left the math assignment and the headphones. I went around the school trying to find it. Days later, a teacher at the media center said she found it by the computers.

The only way someone would of gotten my iPod if they knew where I put it, and had the nerve to go through the papers in class. I'm guessing someone saw me put it in there, and went through it when I went to the bathroom or to talk to the teacher.

A few months later, the same thing happen to my iPod nano. The only difference is that the iPod nano was in a different section, and it was in a pink case. Usually they don't allow you to report things missing if they were items such as iPods, phones, and so forth. But I think they realized that someone had to be digging through my backpack to get it. A week later, a kid found it and turned it into my math teacher. Apparently he found it in the middle of the hallway, close to where some of my classes were located. I never found the pink case, and my iPod nano wasn't tampered with.

It's the kids who actually make a attempt to hide their stuff that get screwed over. [end of rant]

Only the people who's parents didn't buy it for them have a case around here. Except me. I don't want to order a case for my 3rd gen 15 gig, and it was very scratched when I got it, so I don't really care. I got it for $70.

I'm doubting the beamer thing. My dad said he'd buy some beater car for me for under $1000. I sure hope that if it is an American car, that it is a small truck. If it is a grand prix, etc, I won't drive it. No way. I'll ride my moped. (which cost me $60) Dream vehicle for me is an '05 VW Jetta TDI in Alaska Green. I'll never be able to ever in my lifetime afford that, but if I can buy a '93-99.5 gas Jetta for under $2k with a manual transmission and A/C, I'd be happy. Hopefully I'll be able to do that next year. I looked at a '98 Jetta Wolfsburg edition for 2k, but the clutch was going out and the AC was out. :( I noticed a few new style Jettas for $3k on craigslist, and not a scam ('99 with 150k miles). Maybe I'll be able to afford that by the end of next summer, working.

ANOTHER COUNTERPOINT:

I think everybody is just a little overprotective of their ipods. Don't take this the wrong way; I was also pretty overprotective. iPod is just a product that will be arbituary in the future.

If there's a scratch on it, who cares?? If iPods were something big, like cars, then you might get angry if there's a scratch. Besides, I bet you can find somebody that can replace the iPod cover if the scratches do look that ugly. Personally, I was only protective of my iPod the first week that I got it. After that, I didn't care AS much.

And now, I'm not protective at all! lol. This doesn't mean I try to break it, I just use my iPod just like any other thing in the world, without holding it a certain way to avoid getting fingerprints on it.

I don't have any marks on my iPod at all, and I never had a case or anything to protect it from scratches

I see that every day. The ipod right now is a big fad and the kids just get there parents to buy there ipods insted of saving up for them like i did. Since they didnt buy it then there less likely to care weather they lost it or weather it gets scratched. People tell me all the time that im stupid for buying cases for my ipods. Guess what when they pull there unprotected ipods out the backs and screens are scratched while my ipods wich support cases look brand new no finger prints or anything ;) .

As far as I'm concerned, they bought it and they can do whatever the hell they want with it.

I took the case off of mine yesterday for good because it made my nano too thick which negates the point of having one.

I don't bring my iPod to school often. When I do, I make sure nobody I know touches it. My iPod is mostly used at home or on vacations.

# 68 Re: Carelessness of iPods in school!
I have gotten so used to the iPod now I can put it away carefully but at the same time carefully. I am naturally careful though. I wouldn't just put my laptop in my bag without a case to protect it. So many people do though, whether it is iPods, laptops or anything, they are not very careful with it.

Personally, I like my stuff to stay looking as good as new for as long as possible, by treating mine and other peoples equipment with respect. I hate letting other people use my stuff because they are naturally careless. People care around thousands of dollars worth of equipment round now, with iPods, phones, laptops...and they just don't seem to care, or think that these products are designed to be chucked around.

I do have a lot and my parents do earn a lot, but I treat stuff with respect and never take it for granted. I have never had the attitude of, "Oh well, it's broke...Dad will get me a new one". Besides I prefer things I save up for myself. Makes me appreciate my hard work I have put in, and I can think "I paid for that...(and I'll kill anyone that breaks it!!)". I appreciate a lot more the things I have got, I could have got a new car...but that lasts say 10 years or less then you would want another, plus it falls in value. I got help to get a deposit for a house for me and my girlfriend, which in my opinion is much more satisfying being on the property ladder, rather than wasting money on the latest car.

Stand on your own two feet now, because mommy and daddy won't always be around to support you.

Boy you sure do you have an obession with cases don't you?

I bought a case for my $400 iPod... I HATED it. It made using it such a pain in the ###. It became so bulky too. It put more scratches in it than it would have gotten without a case.

Now I just use it by itself and like it much more.

What would be the point of them releasing an item where EVERYONE who "cared" About their iPod had to use a case?

well my parents thought i deserved one since i work and i get good grades and am most likely going to get a scholarship so they bought me a really nice car that is probably like $100,000 i cant help it

Yeah.. but that's...just bad...

considering both my parents work their asses off and could never afford that

I got a case for my 80 gb. That was the only thing I got for Christmas and I paid about $100 of it. My sister got a 30 gb and she treats it like crap. Here I was reading books and reading all I could to take care of it and she acts like a spoiled rich girl (which she's not) and treats it badly. I hate her for that. I take care of my stuff, the cd's I bought when I was 12 look like they were just factory pressed. I'm OCD like that.

WOW! Can you say spoiled rotten childern? I had to work months and save every penny to get the ipods I own. My parents would never loan me money for a ipod but hopefully they will when its time for me to get a car:D

No , when I had a first generation nano (which I did when I first made this topic) I used a case because as you probably know they get really scratched really easily. The only case I have for my 2nd generation nano is a pink leather one that was made for the 1st gen nano and I hardly use that. Lol

ok i just turned 16 and my parents bought me a new bmw 745 i guess my parents have money but i also do well in school straight A's so i got a nice present but dont just label people because they have money because if i didnt have straight A's even one B i wouldnt have gotten a car ok

I don't care who you are. BMW 745 for a 16 year old is unnecessary. Any parents who want to bestow any sense of self worth, determination, drive, the value of working for what you get would not give their 16 year old a car like that. Just look at the statistics. Getting good grades is one thing, but what ever happened to the honor roll?

As far as carelessness goes with iPods, I'll say this much; If your constantly worrying about your Pod, it takes the joy out of owning one. Personally, i throw mine around. Its just fine.

ANOTHER COUNTERPOINT:

Exactly. iPods are the only MP3 player that I've heard of that actually *needs* a case. Most of the other MP3 Players don't need cases *at all.* In fact, most of the other MP3 players only have cases for working out, and not for "everyday wear" like the iGod.

I don't use a case for my iPod. I just have packing tape on the screen and back to keep off fingerprints. The screen is made of glass, so I'm not real worried about scratches, and if I get one, it won't be the end of the world. It may be annoying to ignore, but not that big of a deal in the long run.

And yes, I do put my iPod in my jeans pocket without a case, but so what? The only thing that'll happen to it from doing so is having lint on the screen/earphones. It's not that big of a deal to get the lint off. It only takes a few seconds.
