Haters on the iPod, Vol 1

######Based on True Events#######!

Last Thursday my Mint 5g 30Gig Black iPod died. I thought I'd never see a sad face on a device ever again, but anyways, I did the whole replacement process online and got my new one today, and therefore I'm not that bent outta shape about it.

Now the comic part is when the iPod died, it was in front of my friends ( gravity induced failure) . Before It broke, they were all defensive, like , " yeah man, your iPod is nice, but I got this Rio thats, like , got 20 Gigs"....

"$300 man?Too much money"....

and so on and so forth.....

So, when it broke, and I tried to restart it and got the Sad face, they ( as in all seven witnesses ) took turns in reciting , " See, ANYTHING WITH APPLE SUCKS Man".. "iPods suck man, you shoulda got a Rio"

"Hey man, My Dell still runs... Apple is a piece of shyt ...." ad infinitum...

So, now that I got my replacement free iPod back, I'm just gonna keep on rollin, glad this time around I'm not SOL like I deserve to be.Not like its Apple's fault it fell. And , yes, Im actually gonna give a big thank you to Apple for handling their business and speedily gettin me back in audio heaven....

My challenge to all those haters with all those imitation iPods:
Drop your POS's and see whether Michael Dell's(just one example) gonna be sending you a new one free of charge, BY NEXT DAY AIR LOL...

My friend is one of those types, who used to have a Dell. Broke excessively; eventually admitted failure and returned it. Then went and got a Zen...

I mean to each their own, but I recently dealt with Gateway warranty and I couldn't believe that when the admitted our keyboard was broken and that they were sending us a new one by GROUND, GROUND SHIPPING! 5-7+ days wait to get our computer refunctioning, especially since the person told me that hooking up any other keyboard (not that I had one at the house), would void our warranty! That person of course had no idea what they were talking about. I mean you can't work without a keyboard and we had purchased the 4 year extended warranty!

Though apple can have it's issues with warranty repair sometimes at least they have the courtesy to send things next day shipping + with saturday delivery sometimes.

And has anyone ever been asked to call a long distance number as part of technical support for apple? Gateway will get me part way through technical support and then ask me to call a long distance number on MY DIME even though I spent an extra $400 bucks on the extended warranty. At least don't be so cheap as to not allow your customers to talk to you for free.

Okay. End gateway rant. I'm sure warranty experiences will continue to be different for everyone. There is an entire thread of apple warranty woes over in the warranty/repair/service forum. Not everyone is always so lucky.

When you drop small electronics, they might break?

I have a better test, throw an apple and a dell laptop out a 6th story window simultaneously and see which one has the more impressive crash.

Has to be the apple. They always go for form over function, right? ;)

very often, i find people making comments about "dell is better", or "apple sucks" and whatnot.

really, i think they just say it out of jealousy. actually i KNOW that they say it out of jealousy. i even know people that make up the fact that they have ipods so they can "make" themselves feel better by having other people think that they own one.

i think that's RIDICULOUS! personally, i could care less who has an ipod and who doesn't. many people think of them as a status symbol, but i use mine for what it's worth!

A funny thing happened the first day of Calc class this semester.....four people sat in one row, and all these guys had their Mp3 player's on the shared desk next to their notebooks . The there was a rio, some white iPod shuffle-copycat( W/ white earbuds, but with the ripoff square tip design:mad: ) and a Dell DJ that looked like a bloated brick. I put my iPod video next to my mathbook , same way, and OWNED the whole lecture hall LOL....

I got some jealous looks from those folks that would scare the green off a $20.....

Hold it right there. I dont get my kicks off of flaunting my iPod. I thought I'd mention a circumstance where people , because I have an iPod, thought of me through my stuff rather than who I am. Quite honestly I could give less of a fleas a$$ what people think about Apple, iPods, or even why the sky is blue. I was only wondering if any others had people say stupid stuff about iPods because they didnt have one .

So, if I'm just gonna get flamed, then so be it.Just thought I'd share an iDea....

I used to hate iPods, before I ever used one. I've gone through so many Minis (6 to be exact) that I'm sold on apple just because of their sevrace.

Well anyways my dads friend has a DJ and when ever we go camping together he trys to make fun of me for being a iPod follower. Well He was messing with my iPod and wished he had one as easy to use as mine.

lol, Dell... that's funny because he was an idiot for buying one. As for the iPod... I can't wait to see the sad face. ha ha... that's ghey. I've already experienced the folder w/the !. As for my Creative I will still push that as a decent player as you can't get any simpler than drag and drop. iPods are not all that I'm sorry to say.

# 20 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
For me, iPods have only just become the prefered brand, and that is as much because of Rockbox.

The first good HD DAP was the H120 by iRiver. It had optical in and out ports, .wav recording via built in microphone and either analogue or digital line in and .wav playback. It was released in 2003.

The first HD DAP with colour screen was the iRiver H320. It also had USBOTG built in, FM radio, built in microphone, supplied remote, two headphone jacks for sharing, a line in (analogue). It was released in July 2004.

In November 2004 it was video enabled.

Both of these players were able to plug into any computer and drag and drop music both on and off. My major gripe with iPods was their reliance on iTunes. Many here say it is their major benifit, but iTunes will work with other players as well if it is what you want.

Now with Rockbox the iPods have drag and drop.

And how much was an iRiver? My only grip about iRiver was they were just too ugly.

# 22 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
I don't hate on others with different DAP's. I think that the iRivers are nice DAPs. Just don't start a conversation with me using the words " iPods suck because____"

The low thing was that three people used my Sad face incident to condemn all of apple(using first/second gen Macintosh as proof) and to exult the reliability of their own mp3 systems.

Apple's not perfect, but who is? Besides, I don't think all Dells suck because of their first-generation computers .Not naming names ( *cough* 1st gen Inspiron laptop *cough*) .

All i gotta say, is that DELL sucks! My church has had a dell laptop, and the battery is already dead, the CD-ROM drive gets stuck alot. I don't like people that have a crappy 256MB MP3 (mainly my friends) saying that theirs has more memory when it doesn't, and that it's more advanced when it's not.

Krn iPod
(One of many Anti-Dell people, and one of many Apple lovers)

Edit: Oo Dam, Sorry But Brining this Almost Month Old Topic Back, really really sorry bout this!

# 24 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
Well, I'm quite interested in Dell computers. They're the only brand of computers I personally really like.

However I hate how the dell dj's are advertised as twice the storage as ipod per gigabyte. Only that they are advertised as 64 kbps while ipod is 128 kbps (sorry if i got that wrong, with the kbps part i forgot what it's called, been a while)

Well this kid in the other class I guess you can call us friends. Only he says that his Dell DJ his better than my iPod. I've explained in which ways my ipod is better, and he starts giving out lame excuses. it's funny. So overall, I'm the only one in school with a 30gb ipod with video. no one has more than that, it's weird isn't it? I'm pretty sure when i go to high school soon, they'll have lots of ipods there. Same school that kid with the dell dj is going to. So another 4 years of saying my iPod's better.

# 25 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
people make fun of what they don't have/want. Same with a few friends of mine, but most of my friends aren't like that because they also have ipods, they're really popular at my school...

Just about everyone in my school has one, so there isnt much to be jealous of.

Its a 'no' for me. Thank goodness!

Haha, This kid who's my age lives across the street from me owned a Dell DJ. He got it during the Christmas of 2004. All the time, he would follow me and tell me how great his DJ was and what a bad choice I made for purchasing a mini. Well, during Easter of this year he recieved an iPod 5g 30GB and he told me how great his new iPod was. I soon followed him into purchasing an iPod 30GB, but I prefer iPod over Dell DJs.

That kind of happened to me when I got my nano. This kid at my school got some sony crap for his birthday. Its big, heavy, and non-color so pretty much the opposite of the nano. Anyway for a month he kept trying to say how a nano is a waste of money and that sony's mp3's are clearly better. It was obvious that he was jealous though.

# 29 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
hey. ive never heard of Dell players, probably cause theyre not so common here in australia. well i got an ipod and a few of my friends cant shut up about it being crap and that creative is better. i agree with what gbrandt3 said "people make fun of what they don't have/want..." theres this computer nerd that i know (unfortunately) that points out the ipod has crap features and is overpriced... well he has some sh** creative mp3 with 512mb...

i have to admit, other players DO come with more features, but would you really listen to the radio if you had all your favourite tunes with you on your stylish ipod?

I guess I've not discovered any of these 'haters'. Almost everyone I know has an iPod. I wouldn't be surprised if my neighbor's dog came out for his afternoon walk with a Shuffle+lanyard around his neck.

Hehe I go on a Public school, and 1st day i brought my Mini to school (Back in 2004,when the minis were new, and u couldnt get one on Mexico), there were some ppl who saw my Ipod as if it was an alien device, I remember that some guy told me "Nice, is that an FM player?" and I was like "Wut O.O?" anyway now in my current classroom, there are a lot of MP3 players, There is the Shuffle=copycats, which are white and rectangular-shaped, there are a Sony High-MD, a Crative Mp3 Player like 4 shuffles, 3 nanos, and My Video :D.

I can say im the king of the hill whe i play that alizee video in class xD

Well the point is
1. Ipod is way better than the other brands, why? because it-s easy to manage, it has a Lot of accesories, it can be repaired anywhere xD, Its indestructible (At least the mini is, I dropped it from a 4th floor to the streets and only got a lil scratch xD)

About Laptops - Alienware is the best brand you could ever have. :D I love my Lap!

# 32 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
You do get a few non conformists who insist that the iPod is a poor piece of hardware. One of my friends is really anti-iPod and pro Zen (he does put forward a persuasive argument...) and one of my cousins is the same. Generally, people don't care, what ever plays their music right?

I get more hassle when I mention that im switching to a Mac though, despite the fact that many constantly complain about Windows or have problems, they are intent on pursuading me that Apple's are overpriced and crap...this is the point where I show them the specs of a 17" MBP and what price I would be getting it at...

# 33 Re: Haters on the iPod, Vol 1
give them time! so many players out there but ipod is the one & only. that's why people put up with the not so great battery life. it's still the best.

most ipod haters i've come across are uninformed & are in that clique 'cos it's cool to be anti ipod but when you ask them why, they start making excuses like you can only play music from the itunes store, things like that. someone has been spreading lies!! then you tell them it will play most formats they go all quiet for a while, probably sneaking away to buy an ipod. especially on internet forums, some of them do own them but won't admit it, preferring to suck up to the l33t. yeah, internet has bred this fake l33t culture where it's cool to be anti-whatever when really, it's cool to like what you like.

Yeah, one of my ######ed friends called it a "Pleasure Pod" and how everyone has one and that it sucks. I'm guessing it's because he can't afford one, seeing as he's on welfare. So I punched him, and now he doesn't diss my iPod anymore.

The fact is the iPod is ubiquitous these days, and that's changed the nature of the game. When grandparents are buying iPods, there's just no fighting against the fact Apple has managed to successfully ingrain the iPod into our culture. There's just very little point in fighting against it, although I am 100% positive there will eventually be a player that comes along and actually challenges Apple. The only shocker, in my mind, is that it hasn't happened yet.
