Banned iPods

Well starting the new semester at my school they decided that they would ban all electronic devices. It was such a big change going from listening all the time...to nothing! Just wondering if there were any earbuds that are wireless...so that I could have earbuds in my ears that couldnt be seen easily...and then just an adapter in the jack of the ipod...are these around...I looked around and could only find the bigger headphones. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

 no ipods...? pff

You could like grow your hair out/wear a hat and then run the chord down your shirt or something. That'd work best with black buds.

I'm sure there probably are some wireless earbuds.. but I cant think of any currently.

Would clip-ons work? http://froogle.google.com/froogle_cluster?q=wireless+earbuds&pid=1970634143642515905&oid=12966621720051156061&btnG=Search+Froogle&lmode=&addr=&scoring=mrd

Here's what i do wear a hooded sweatshirt and put the cord in between your hoody and t-shirt put the hood up and put the ear buds in kids have doing that hear for years now, but now the teachers don't care so we can listen to them when we are doing class work.

Now I have tried the hoodie thing...but teachers can just tell. I think over time this will die down...but i was hoping that they just had wireless earbuds...like a hearing aid sorta...that would be awsome...couldnt find any though

The only anywhere near stealth earbuds for a reasonable price that I know are the Shure E2c's, which can be worn with the cord going above the ear and behind the head. It can be successfully hidden inside highly fashionable hairstyles such as the mullet (http://www.plagueofthemullet.com/A%20Warning%20from%20America.htm).

No big deal as why is having the iPod at school important? I mean you should focus in lessons other than messing around listening to music. Also it wont get stolen if you dont take it to school.

just don't take your ipod to school anymore. if it's stolen or taken away if your'e caught. then it's not worth it. just forget about the whole idea.

if your hair was long then it would sorta work.

Just leave the iPod at home. You're not at school to listen to music. You're their to learn and to interact with the people around you.

personally, music helps me study. so anyone that says leave it at home because you should be focusing in class is an idiot, because music is what makes me focus in class. luckily i'm in college now so it doesn't matter what the school says, i do whatever i want. but i'd be ####ed if my high school told me i couldn't have my ipod.

If you can focus with music you can learn to focus without it.

Listening to music is disrespectful to teachers. Plus, it's hard for teachers to tell who needs it to focus and who's just slacking off.

The "idiot" has spoken.

# 16 Re: Banned iPods
It's still idiotic to make the assumtion that kids are listening to iPods while the teacher is talking. I have done it before and it helps class go by, but it there's something important I need to know or write down, I'll take out my headphone and pay full attention rather than 50%.

I have a study hall for 80 minutes every day. Its impossible for any kid to sit still and do work for 80 minutes straight. I look around in my study hall and there are about 10 kids in it. Every kid in it has headphones in. At my school we have a rule that there are only headphones in lunch and in study hall. But I walk around all day with my iPod and I don't turn it off once during the 7 hours I'm at school.

I think you're looking at the problem wrong, instead of trying to hide headphones and get around the rule you should get a large group of students to form a group and try to get rid of the rule. I'm sure there are enough kids that are mad about it.

Anyone who says "you shouldn't be listening to music in school" simply doesn't remember highschool.

It's not just kids at school. There's a problem with this in our society in general. It bugs the hell out of me that people walk around with headphones on 24/7. What happened to social interaction?

I used to work at one of the food places on campus when I was in college and people would come through the check out line with headphones on. It got to a point where I refused to help them until they took the headphones off. It's bloody ridiculous.

And to whoever said that those who claim that you shouldn't listen to music during school don't remember high school, I can say that I most certainly do. I remember the social interaction, something that you miss out on when you don't turn your iPod off for 7 hours straight.

i think there can be a happy medium, wearing it 7 hours straight is out of control but there's nothing wrong with listening to music at school in moderation.

I can agree with that. Back in college I only wore mine in public when I did not want to be disturbed. Nothing says "leave me alone" better than wearing earbuds and burying your face in a book.

I talk just as much as anybody and I usually keep one ear bud in all day, not listening to both for 7 hours. I don't read books either, and I'm not a nerd. I just like to have some sort of background music. Its easier for me to talk if I have a headphone in anyway, if not all the silence gets to me. I talk to people around me all day.

Who cares if whoever it is doesn't want to take their headphone out when they are buying something? Its not like you're going to carry out a lengthy conversation (or anything more than Hi, how are you?) when you are standing in line. The only thing you were doing was making people mad, not proving a point.

It's rude to walk around with headphones on all day, especially if you're interacting with people on any level. That's common sense.

This is one of a few things that I don't like about iPod culture.

This is alot of the reason I love the iPod. I don't like a lot of people around my school. I'd much rather have my iPod on and walk to lunch by myself than have to listen to the idiots not far behind.

As much as it sucked when I was in school, bans were kinda something you can look back at and go "Man, those times were ridiculous"

At my schools, when Pogs came out, two weeks later so did the ban. It gave all of us kids something to talk about. When Yo-Yo's came back in for a bit, banned, and once again, something to talk about. Laserpointers, CD Players, cell phones (thats right all you young kids, for a long time cell phones and pagers were banned from campus', it wasn't until columbine that they slowly started to make them OK during breaks and in between classes), Pokemon cards, Playing Cards, dice, etc, etc.

School-wide bans are a part of growing up, something you'll talk about with your friends when your in college and go "Hey, remember when they banned iPods, that was lame!"

With that said, sneaking around the ban was just as fun. Get some black earbuds, wear a hat, wear a hoodie, and wear sunglasses, with all that going on above the neck, you should be able to conceal them.

when my school banned things lije that, we would find alternatives.
when they banned marbles, we played with rocks
when they banned crazy bones, we played with rocks
when they banned pogs we played with flat rocks
they never banned pokemon though.
which was probably the worst craze.

Banning iPods is a good thing, its disrespectful to teachers to listen in class, and its too easy to get it stolen at school. I only use my iPod when I go to the gym to work out (about 5-6 times a week) and right before I go to sleep I'll listen to a little music. I couldnt concentrate if I used it in class and I just think its anti-social when people walk around with headphones in their ear all the time.

Right, some views from the chalkface.

I am a teacher, I teach math and science.

The school I work in has the rule, "it is up to the individual teacher".

My rules.

1) When I am talking, buds out, headphones off, pause is *not* good enough. Second time I have to tell you, it is off for the rest of the lesson.

2) If you are doing group work, no music.

3) If I or others around you can hear it because you have leaky buds or it is too high, then turn it down. Second time in one lesson, no more music.

4) Your use of it in a lesson is implicit permission for me to listen to your volume levels. If it is too loud, turn it down. Second time in one lesson, no more music. If you dont want me to listen, keep it off.

I am strict on these rules.

However, I want students in math to have music on. Most work better that way, dont chatter about non-work stuff, but will still talk about work.

One student (12 years old) was a pain. Always disturbing the lesson. One of his friends lent him a dap, and he worked well. He always borrows one for math now :) His parents are coming in for a meeting soon, I want them to buy him one, and will suggest it.

Today I had 15 year olds working on genetics sheets. One kid was talking too much, and had buds hanging out of his sweatshirt pocket, I told him to put them in. When he did, he shut up and worked.

Ehh, I guess. For me its a five minute walk to class and getting everything started up and picking a playlist to play, just too much hassle to listen to one song. Since Im in college its all lectures so I cant listen in class. Also, I go to a small school, Wake Forest University, which is in North Carolina, and I always see people I know. I dont use my iPod unless Ive got 30 minutes or more to listen, this is usually when Im going to the gym or lying down to go to sleep.

# 40 Re: Banned iPods
My school has "rules" about not using iPods in class or whatever, but we're pretty lax about the rules and some teachers let us use them during free periods and some even during essay writing! I haven't ever seen someone getting in trouble for posessing their iPod, but when they're listening to it in class when they're not supposed to then the teachers will start handing out detentions. Otherwise, we don't really care.

peronally, i can study/listen to the teacher with one earbud in, although im sure there are people who just tune out everything when they listen to music.

i love listening to my ipod during study hall, tests, boring videos, etc.

i can talk to people with one earbud in at my school, and it isnt considered "anti-social" EVERYONE at my school has earbuds in their ears, and it is not uncommon to see two people working quietly while listening to music through one earbud or exchanging mp3 players all together.

Around here, if they see them they take them away. I had mine taken once- no headphones, the screen wasn't even on, and it was being held upside down.

Of course, the principal didn't even know what it was when it was handed to him later.

wow i gotta say there's certainly alot of points in this thread
i was probably one of the laziest mother######s in school lol
i actually carried a pillow to half of my classes. guess what? the teachers didnt care because i maintained a 3.8+ gpa at all time, never disturbed anyone and obviously did HW and well on tests.
besides, part of the fun is beating the the teachers who are strict, everyone knows you want what you cant have.. i think they did something similar to this in one of the schools around here, then the kids #####ed to their parents, parents #####ed to the school and strangely enough within the next week electronics were back at school ^^

anyways, dude if i was you i would try to get all the kids to rebell against the school if your not too lazy to do it, or if you must listen the hoodie is prolli the best thing, just pay attention and interact for the first 15 minutes or somethin so it seems like you got nothin to hide, then turn them ####s on..worked for me for all the "hardcore" teachers.
