Music videos - the essential collection
So in anticipation of getting an iPod video (soon as the 60G whites turn up at BB!), I have been thinking about what classic videos should end up on the iPod. I'd like to hear your suggestions for classic music videos that are essentials.
It's sad that I can't come up with many concrete examples despite growing up on MTV in the 80's, but I'll get things started:
Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Art of Noise - I can't remember the name, some freaky girl was in it though, heh
Robert Palmer - Addicted to Love
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Don't Come Around Here No More
Yep, I'm old... :o I bet some of the kids on this forum are going to look at my list and say "WTF are those??"

Nice picks! If its classic early-MTV stuff you're looking for, I'd have to add "Take Me On" by A-Ha, "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics, "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran-Duran, and "Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen.
For some newer stuff I'd add "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak, "Losing My Religion" by REM, and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. Maybe something more recent, but I can't think of anything.
I believe the Art of Noise video you are referring to is "Close (To the Edit)".

I love that Tom Petty video for Don't Come Around Here No More that had the Alice in Wonderland theme! Hopefully iTunes will get it soon.

i can recommend any music video by michel gondry, you've probably seen a few of them on mtv etc... there is a dvd called "the work of director michel gondry", he is just totally amazing... (he also did "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind".)
and if you care for a free, creative commons licensed and brand new "ipod ready" video (we've now tested it!), you can download our "stationvideo", a film noir remix music video: stationvideo.blogspot.com (the h.264 "ipod version" is listed on the right hand side in the links section "> extra: an h.264 encoded version...")

Here's my picks:
The Presidents of the United States of America- Video Killed the Radio Star (cliche, I know, but we're going with essentials here, remember?)
Rammstein- Du Hast
Bowling for Soup- 1985
Fountains of Wayne- Stacy's Mom
The Game- Dreams
Beastie Boys- Body Movin'
Fall Out Boy- Sugar, We're Going Down
Kanye West- Jesus Walks
That's about it for my essentials. Too many more good ones to count though (I would have gone with a couple of the others listed above, but they're already taken ;) ).

Nice suggestions guys, thanks! Here's a few more I came up with:
Tool - Sober
Run DMC/Aerosmith - Walk This Way
Van Halen - Dreams
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Now the hard part will be actually collecting all of these vids. I only have maybe 2 or 3 of all that has been listed so far.

Yes, I know you like the almighty 'Sabotage' ;)
I don't believe I have 'Body Movin'' though, I'll have to try to get a hold of it.
