Anyone using QT7Pro for Windows to convert?

I'm having issues and want to know if anyone else is having similar problems. I'm using QT7Pro for Windows. I am following the steps listed here:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
(Not being able to post URLs is very annoying! What is it's purpose?!?)

I didn't get my iPod yet, but i'm converting some music videos in advance. The file i'm trying to convert is a 51meg MPEG that's 4:02. After following the steps above, the file literally takes 45mins to covert. I tried Videora which I read about in other posts, and it coverted the file in like 3 mins. Anyone else notice QT7Pro takes a long time. I have a A64 3500+ with a gig of ram, so my system isn't holding me back.

Also, when QT7Pro finally does output the m4v file, it gives me an "open with ..." option, which means for whatever reason QT isn't even claiming the file type, which I find very odd. Anyway, when I open it in QT, the video is fine, and it kept the wide screen aspect ratio (the outputted file was 320x186), but there was no sound! I have no idea why, any ideas?

Also, side question, how do you label the artist, album, songs on a video? I tried doing it through QT "movie properties" but when you save the file, it makes it a .mov file, what's with that?

Confused,

Joe

I have been using QTPro to convert some avi files (MPEG 2). As you mentioned it takes an age!!! The converted files look OK and also play fine in iTunes. No issues with sound. I don't have my iPod yet so I havn't been able to test them. I have posted a sample HERE (http://www.mshakeshaft.dsl.pipex.com/) it is a 41MB download.

You can just use iTunes to add the artist information, etc. It's the same as doing it to an MP3.

Martin, how were you able to convert MPEG2s? When I try to open MPEG2's in QTPro, it say's, "Error -2048: the file is not a movie file."

Anyway, yea ... I get no sound with my QTPro conversions. The only files the have converted the way they should, with sound, were files that were .mov's to begin with. I've tried several formats, and none work, and the ones that do convert have no sound in the resulting .m4v file.

PS. You're .m4v from your site worked great on my machine, video/sound. Glad someone got QTPro working correctly!

I'm having the same "no sound" problem with QTPro. If someone has an answer, I'd be ever so grateful. :)

I still don't have an answer Moey, but converting files to .mov's first, then export the converted .mov's with QTPro for the ipod has resulted in sound. Hopefully i'll have my ipod sometime next week, but either way these files should work perfectly in the ipod since they are being exported with QTPro.

I've been trying to convert AVI files. The issue y'all are having w/no sound...well, I have no video! There has got to be some sort of codec issue. I'm beginning to think Quicktime doesn't support AVI.

These files were originally WMV converted to AVI. I tried to convert them to MPEG instead and export from there (as for how to do that without receiving an error, when opening the file just click down on the file type you want to open and there is an option for MPEG). The MPEG file seemed to convert fine, but it was taking over an hour for a 4 min. video and then just froze at 70%.

I HATE QUICKTIME PRO! I really want my 30 bucks back.

I've only used AVIs with QuickTime Pro. You may want to search for programs that convert Mpegs to AVIs before using quicktime. The AVIs I used were created via Premiere Pro ( DV AVIs) with no problems. QuickTime Pro to iPod ( H.264) is slow. You can choose to convert it to Mpeg4 using customized options in QuickTime Pro, which is faster. However, with the test video I used, I noticed some quality issues when compared to H.264.

You're not able to associate m4v files with Quicktime Pro, but you can associate it with ITunes. I suspect they may have done it intentionally.

after i bought the pro version of QT, it realized how long it takes and that i wasnt getting audio. So i spent another 30 buck and got a program (after making sure it did what i want in the trial version) it is called Xilisoft Video Converter. It works great. I used it yesterday to convert a bunch of home movies for my ipod. I also, ver excited about this, used it to convert the brand new O.C. episodes and family guty and Laguna beach. So needless to say, i am ready, my ipod arrives today and i have a tone of video ready to watch, audio included. I have however not been converting to .MOV, instead, i am converting to .MP4, it transfers into itunes and playes wonderfully. forget .mov and quicktime. hope that helped?
