What are you listening to (with a twist)
Alright, so I've seen hundreds of these around. They get pretty boring and quickly become a +1 to your postcount. I suggest a new format:
Post the song that you are listening to currently
Post a link to a sample of that song (amazon.com is good for that)
Comment on the previous person's song (even if it's a 'haven't heard that before - kooky' deal)
Hopefully you can expand your musical taste with this, or just get an appreciation of what is out there...
Begin.

Good idea Adam. Maybe it's time to close the other 'What are you listening to' thread ?
Dredg - Bug Eyes: I like them/him/it. Nothing special, but i am tempted to maybe try and get hold of an album.
My go: The Favours - I Don't Need Anything From You

The Favours -- I Don't Need Anything From You -- Hits you the second you start listening to it, and I really like the female vocals! :) Good style, and I have downloaded some of their other songs because of this!
-----
Coldplay -- Speed Of Sound
Click here (http://www.yanathin.com) for audio sample. Just go to the iTunes link on the website, find the Coldplay song, and press play! No downloading or anything!
# 3 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Cool idea.
Speed Of Sound - It's Coldplay, so I have to hate it. It's boring and sound just like any other song they've ever released. Which is good if you like them I suppose.
Ok Go - Do What You Want. I was introduced to this band by a friend yesterday and am debating whether I like them. They're a little heavy, but whatever.

Woo. This is like the old Forced Listening thread without the illegal downloading :D
Anyways..
OK Go - Do What You Want
I like lots... its not that heavy though?? Relatively poppy actually.. catchy and whatnot

Test Icicles - Circle Square Triangle: I love the guitars, it has a type of sound I like, but it borders on a little bit to much scream to the singing for part of my tastes
Kory and the Fireflies - Pop Fly http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=66099754&s=143441&i=66099466 Just started in my iTunes before I had to listen to Sypher's song.
note sure if the sample at their website: www.koryandthefireflies.com under music is any better than the one on iTunes...
# 6 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Kory and the Fireflied - Pop Fly
Not bad.. but sounds a bit, uhm.. gimmicky somehow. My taste in rock is still pretty much limited to indie/new wave stuff I guess

# 11 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Helena - Misfits
I really, really don't like punk music. At all. I can appreciate that certain people really, really DO like it, but I don't. I must say though, that is NOT what I thought The Misfits sounded like. I'd always imagined alot more screaming-- dunno why. Either way, I didn't really like it.

I recently bought the Pete & Pete Season 1 DVD and had a hankerin' for some Polaris, so I whipped this out. Hope ya'll enjoy, and especially all you fans of "old-school" Nickelodean.
By the way Adam, this topic was a great idea, I've got my email notification set up for this one.

I haven't heard of this band but from the 30 sec demo they sounded pretty good. He sounds a little like Mick Jagger. I might have to investigate them more. ;)

the soulwax song wasn't really my kind of music, but it wasn't bad.
Rise by Azure Ray
for some reason it wont let me post a link..
but go to myspace, search for "azure ray"
and click on the choice w/o a picture (not the official myspace, but the official one doesn't have the song)
they are absolutely beautiful, but probably not everyone's cup of tea.
# 18 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Oh, man! The first time I posted on this thread I didn't even understand the directions and failed to listen to/comment on the previous song. So I thought I would try again but I can't even figure out how to search MySpace for Azure Ray. and by the time I post this, someone else will probably already answered.
I did find some of their songs at 3hive.com and I like them. Very nice!
So again without listening to the previous song, I offer Marlene by Last Train Home, www.lasttrainhome.com
LTR is a popular band local to the Washington D.C. area.

# 35 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Funny, last night I found myself listening to all sorts of Aussie music. It wasn't that I was intentionally looking for Aussie music, I was just looking for good music. But it made me think of mel and our friends down under.
Cinder, by The Dirty Three (http://www.emusic.com/album/10870/10870425.html)
Naturaliste, by The Lucksmiths (http://www.emusic.com/album/10865/10865767.html)
Not exactly rockin' music for the kids, though. I'm about to sign up for another month of eMusic, and I'm thinking I'll just get the whole Lucksmiths album.
Hey jwc - have you seen the video for "In the Waiting Line"? Its very cool. Just Google for "in the waiting line" video. There was also a good one for "Destiny" by Zero 7. Unfortunately the videos for their last album were truely awful.

Great song, I really like Weezer a bunch. I think the first place I heard this song, was way back in the day, I had Windoze 95 on a rig of mine, and I think the music video for this song came bundled with it. I just remember every time I installed Windows, I would end up finding the music video somewhere on my HDD (I didn't have internet back in those days.)

I have Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, good track!
The New Pornographers - The Laws Have Changed
Good track, catchy. I like TNP, especially Newman, though I prefer 'Miracle Drug' to this one. I've really been impressed with the state of Canadian indie lately - Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, New Pornographers, Hot Hot Heat, Wolf Parade, etc.

Meh, all this nationalism - Aussies want to hear Aussies, Canuks want to hear Canuks!
I like the bands you mention, but there's some other Canadian bands I've been digging. A Northern Chorus is a recent favorite.
The Shepherd and the Chauffeur (http://www.sonicunyon.com/downloads/mp3s/a_northern_chorus/01-TheShepherdTheChauffeur.mp3) isn't my favorite, but its got some of the rock-opera feel of the CD. And its got that "free" thing going for it. :)

# 54 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Wolf Parade - It's A Curse
Great song.. probably my favourite on the album, along with Fancy Claps.
Northern Chorus - The Shepherd and the Chauffeur
Nice, cinematic rock.. although the intro did start to bore me, but then the vocals fixed that. Until uhm, the vocals and quieter music started to bore me. What can I say, I have a short attention span :D
The crescendo was cool.. kinda reminded me of Arcade Fire, and I'll save this for when I'm in the mood for something calming.
Mine:
Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

Oh, and Sypher - Arctic Monkeys rock! I love that song. They're playing NY in a couple of weeks, sold out of course. Can't wait for the official full-length!

^Indeedy.. they're amazing. I saw them at Reading Festival.. well, kinda.. they were playing at one of the smallest tents so it was absolutely jam packed.
The Cribs - Mirror Kissers
Hmm. I'm not a big fan of The Cribs.. (although an exception is made for "Another Number" ..that song is beautiful) and this song kinda confirms my opinion of them I'm afraid.
Zion I - Temperature feat Talib Kweli

Hmmm...'Lazy', I have several versions of the song 'Lazy' by Deep Purple. The best of which is on 'Made In Japan', which also is the best live album ever. Ever.
Currently listening to: 'Pictures Of Lily' by The Who from '30 Years Of Maximum R & B'. Then it's 'Thrill That Kills' by Bulletboys from 'Freakshow'.
# 59 Re: What are you listening to (with a twist)
Well "The Who" never made a bad song so two thumbs up for "Pictures of Lily"
Now Bulletboys, on the other hand, are way to "cookie cutter" 80's hair band for me. I couldn't find "Thrill that Kills", but unless they updated their sound, I wont want to listen......
I'll go with someone much newer:
Maroon 5 - Wasted Years - from "Live Friday the 13th
This is for all the fans craving new material...........
