Play Count incrementer too eager for podcasts?

I have my iTunes set to only update my iPod with "unlistened to episodes."

I've noticed however that if I listen to *even a second* of a podcast on my iPod, it is deemed as "listened to" and removed on the next sync. This came as quite a surprise when I wanted to finish listening to a podcast only to find that it had disappeared from my iPod.

I believe this is because the play count is incremented on any amount of listening time.

Granted, it's hard to say what the "unlistened to episode" actually means. For some people, if they've stopped listening to it, they're done and would like to have it removed.

Has anyone else noticed this "feature"?

This feature was brought up early in iTunes 4.9...

It is a "feature" that hopefully will be fixed. Listening to just a bit of the podcast makes it counted as "listened" though the playcount doesn't actually increment...

It is mentioned in the podcasting faq here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301880
excerpt-->
Tip: If you are syncing podcasts automatically to your iPod, do not set the Podcast Preference in iTunes to keep only your unplayed episodes. If you select this setting, listen to part of a podcast on your iPod, and then sync, the podcast will disappear from iTunes.
<--end excerpt.

Sucks.

Bummer.

I like how the docs basically tell you not to use one its own features. Oh well.

Thanks for the link. Hope this gets resolved. Seems like a big oversight.
