Sub-Pop Past & Present

Sub-Pop has emerged not once but twice as a hip, influential indie label leading the charge with two very different styles of music. Being from Seattle, and getting to witness their success over the span of nearly two decades has been a very cool thing indeed. What do you guys think?

Oddly enough, I didn't register a vote because I have equal appreciation for both aspects. I suppose I should have included an 'on the fence vote' as well. :)

Indie for me. Light, innovative and damn sexy. Love the sound, and many of the bands that hail from the genre. With indie music the possibilities are endless, and there is lits of variation. It's good to listen to something different in a while.

I'll go with Indie, just for Sleater-Kinney and Hot Hot Heat..

Unfair question - unless they just don't like indie music, most people are going to go for what's hot today.

This whole poll is pretty much to find out whether you like indie or not, or just what you prefer. There are plenty of people I know who love Nirvana but would just laugh at the new indie stuff.

Both choices are valid, but only one actually impacted the music scene in a major way. So far, the Shins are no Nirvana. My vote goes to grunge.

Tough one for me this....The Sub-Pop of today has such bands as:

The Constantines
The Shins
Postal Service
Wolf Parade
Hot Hot Heat

......and plenty more i've probably forgotton. Although good and talented these bands are, nothing they have done(or will probably ever do) can compare to the impact Nirvana & Co. had.

So as a result of the above i'd have to choose the Sub-Pop of old.
Bands such as: Mudhoney,Sunny Day Real Estate & the almighty Nirvana swing the vote for me.

^Not really. Plenty of indie bands sound nothing like the ones mentioned in this poll. Implying that Nirvana fans probably would'nt like indie bands is kind of ill-informed and ignorant also...

As influential as Nirvana was, I'm sick of them. Sorry. But I am. But today, I listened to a ton of The Shins. They make me happy. I was like, who are The Shins signed to? That was last night. Then I saw. Sub-pop. I love Sub-pop! And V2. My 2 favorite labels.

I'll take the new sub-pop, and the podcast they've got is great. Lots of bands I'd never hear of, being that I'm old and don't get out of the house any more :-)

Old. Can't touch Nirvana, can't match the longevity of Mudhoney, can't touch the impact that any band of the time made on music history.

Great idea for a poll; kudos!

I voted Sub Pop of today, since that reflects more my current tastes. With that said, there's no denying the impact "option 1" has had on the music scene. Suffice it to say, Sub Pop is one of the better labels out there for the past couple decades. If it's on it, I more likely than not have heard and enjoyed it.

I disagree (respectfully, of course:p ) . Often, an old favorite will trump a new obsession.

The Shins are the best band they've ever had

I think I have to agree with that. They've got great bands, and every time I think about that The Shins show it brings a smile to my face. So much fun, seriously. I listened to one of their concerts today. Improved my mood. I didn't even know about Sub-Pop back in the day.
