Can anybody identify the song that played at the opening of the 9/29 episide of

There was a slow song that played during the opening (and the closing) sequences of the CSI episode that aired on 9/29. I remember the song being depressing and disturbing, but that might have been because of the visuals on the screen. In any event, can anybody who watched the show identify the song for me?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: To be a little more specific, it was the song that was playing as the cab was driving around the strip in Vegas.

i think CSI has 4 different openings...

- Cab on the Vegas Strip
- car in the moutains surrounding Vegas
- some sexual seen
- drunk people driving

Good song. I heard it on a show too, I think Cold case.

It is DEFINATELY 'Mad World' by Gary Jules. I found the info on http://members.aol.com/JRD203/csi-music.htm#music-6

AND I got a 'test' version off a p2p network to make sure.

Great song!

This is true. In order to get the song from the Donnie Darko soundtrack, you have to buy the entire album from iTunes.

Even worse, the song Mad World also appears on Gary Jules' album called "Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets." It's track 12. If you look this album up on iTunes:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=5670089

... it's listed as a "partial album" -- and guess what the ONLY song missing is? Yup, Mad World.

What a pain!!!

Do you think the restrictions on purchasing this song alone come from the original writers - Tears for Fears? Are other Tears for Fears songs available for download from iTMS?

^ Yeah, the original Tears for Fears version of this song is available at the iTMS:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=405683

However, the Tears for Fears version is no where near as good as the Gary Jules version -- at least in my opinion.

I have no idea why this song is so restricted, but it's upsetting. I'd have gladly paid for it last night when nicksmith identified it for me ... but I couldn't.

thats one of the few things I dislike about iTMS, the album only tracks. why do they make you buy a whole album when you are looking for 1 or 2 tracks. I think Jobs and crew need to re-think the album only concept.

No they don't. Sure, maybe for soundtracks, but some albums shouldn't be separated. You know. Like Radiohead, or Pink Floyd or albums like that. Screws up the albums so much.

^ You find a way to work Radiohead into every thread, don't you. ;)

Just my signature does the trick. But this is something Radiohead fans are worried about, though, the iTunes thing and being sold as an album. However, I just searched on hype.non-standard.net for Gary Jules and listened to "Mad World" about 5 times. Then finished listening to M83's Teen Angst. Adorable song. But hey, if Radiohead's been your constant #1 for 8 years, they find a way to stick to your mind like honey.

Tears for Fears wrote the song and sung it originally. Although the version that was on CSI was a remake.

Yeah, we've already established that a couple of times above.
