Headphone amp?

Got a 30gb Photo on the way, and I wondered if the distortion that people speak of could be solved by using a headphone amp? I've got Shure e3 headphones, and was considering an extra amp, anyway.

The reason why there is distorion is because Apple had to change the headphone jack to let audio AND video to go through. ASo now, when you turn the volume up a little, it goes distority,

Hey Bro -

The distortion you hear of, I bet, is that which is heard when engaging the EQ setting on the iPod with most songs. iTunes, in particular, records the tracks extrememly high, and leaves no room for adding 6dB of EQ boost ... when you do, you get distortion - turn off EQ, it goes away.

An amp will not take care of this. The only thing I have found that will eliminate distortion is to use a program called MP3Gain/AACGain, and lower the threshold down from the iTunes ~97dB levels to around 90dB ... then add the EQ and there is no more distortion.

It is a software/encoding issue ... not a hardware issue. Hope that helps ...
