Itunes sound quality gone bad

Ok I have been running Itunes for some time now without problems.
For some reason last night I played a track to find that the quality of playback had gone very wrong. Best way to explain it is... sounds like Itunes is playing an old tape.

I turn the volume very low and i can hear background noise, sound like lots of power going into itunes.

I havent changed any settings, I dont use sound enhancer or EQ.
This problem also happen when i play a CD with Itunes

play the same track with Media player or winamp and its fine.

Can anyone help at all??

Its starnge that its only itunes that has the playback problem, all other software is ok.

Thanks for any help

Matt

I think it's so stupid how Apple have pretty much integrated everything into QuickTime. I'm glad you found an answer to your problem but how many general users out there would figure that out?
