White Earbuds

Yeah. Some people nowadays, especially here in California, are all about style, and not about substance. All about form, and not about functionality. Granted, they bought an iPod, but for its popularity, not its abilities. The white earbuds are now like a "status symbo", like expensive cars. I for one think it's nonsense, and quality should be put ahead of panache, which is why I use Sennheisers and Grados instead of the iBuds.

There are, of course, people who are happy with the iBuds based solely on the fact that they don't mind the sound quality; either because they don't know or don't care. That's cool, I guess, but if I could I'd introduce them all to the bountiful joy of true sound quality.

ya, i'm trying to steer away from the stock buds, but know how money is in high skool...

i dont like the 'buds i only use them when i need to fit my 'pod and all in my pocket seeing as i ahve the 40 i jst stick to a belt clip.
I was the first one in my class back in middle school to get a ipod and now everybody has them and they dont realize those buds suck!
my 14 dollar radio shack wrap around headphones are good and since i beat up head phones there a great value.
out here in jersey people always i have buds on its crazy! people dont realize that you can look uber cool by doing ur spanish report presentation via ipod photo i did that my freashmen year lst year and everybody loved it even my teacher loved it i got the highest grade in muh class

I know for myself after buying my Ipod I use the white earbuds simply because I don't feel like putting down even more money on headsets. Although I still have my Sony MDRG57 from when I used to have a discman, and than a mini-disk player.

this is why i use the black sony ex 51s to actually be different. i get better sq and comfort without the cliche comments.

Everyone at UCLA has the stock IPOD headphones.
It's a pity they haven't thought of buying some good headphones.

I love my Westone UM1. No one knows I have an IPOD, hahaha

Ferrari's will always be cool. Just like iPods will start to be uncool the people who have them for purpose and need will still have them and will no who the other people who think the same thing are.

i'm willing to bet most of the people with the stock buds don't post on ipod forums. they probably don't really care about sound quality, either. they probably think "these work, why go out and spend $100 on headphones when these work?" people who are truely concerned about sound quality probably look at/ and purchase players other than iPods, also.

90% of all earphone wearers have white iPod earbuds in my College. One of my friends had an iPod which he sold and kept the earbuds to use in his new Sony player (and the sony ones do sound much better).

It is annoying to see them constantly, even people without iPods using the earphones to look cool.

Yeah,

White Earbuds = cool.

Me = Dork.

Me + White Earbuds = Uncomfortable Dork.

I'm missing cartalidge in my left ear that keeps the earbuds in, so I couldn't use 'em if I tried. :(

It's not even about the earbuds around here. Two years ago I got the 3rd gen for Christmas...before the iPod fad actually hit. This year, every single one of my friends got an iPod video...and it kills me to watch them use it, because they simply don't appreciate it. There are girls that have the black 60 gig, and I look on their "About" menu and they have 40 songs! Ahhhhgghghghhggg. It kills me.

I personally like the earbuds. I used to have a discman that came with them--they were navy colored--and they would not fit. Well, if they fit, then I am going to wear them!

It is funny though how they are "trendy" like a Louis Vuitton purse is. I guess if you can't afford the Louis Vuitton purse, then at least you can get an ipod and show the world your white earbuds. LOL. :D

When I first bought my mini ipod there were not that many people with ipods. I only saw a few. A year later, and now everyone has an ipod. I personally bought an ipod because my discman was becoming an annoyance, I hated changing CD's and was wasting a lot of money on batteries. I had no clue what MP3 player I should buy so when I saw a couple of people in my life who owned ipods and heard of how pleased they were with them, I got one and sold my discman. I used the earbuds because they were what came with the ipod. The sound isn't that bad. I've had the better headphones before and they sound good but break easily.

I'm one of those people who likes trends but tries to make things my own--women where I live carry white Dooney it bags. I bought one that was raspberry colored.

I do agree with what some people said, they have friends and have seen ipods with only 40 songs on them. The most depressing ipod song list I have ever seen was only 25 songs on a mini. Of course, when the ipod is new you have to get used to the amount of space it has. My mini spent 6 months with only 180 songs on it. Today it has 572 songs on it. It kind of is a shock for people used to CD's which only hold 17 songs.

yea same with me i had a b&w 4g and no one else had one now all the sudden i see all theese people at my school with minis and like 20 songs... just by a cd player if you only need like less than 50 songs...

people using the earbuds to look cool is fine with me i dont really care all that much. you do your thing ill do mine. thatbeing said i use the ear buds becuase my EX-71 broke just like every other pair of sony headphones i have ever had. i getting a pair of e2c's in a week or two. but thats neither here nor there. why do you folks let it bother you, let them do there thing.

It seems like people buy PSP's for the white earbuds sometimes...

Actually, all that proves is that they want to know how to put album art on their iPod. And did you ever stop to think that some people buy iPods to just listen to music? Many people have no interest in trying to play an old school version of DOOM with a clickwheel.

Also, if you really wanted a device with a lot of functionality, you should have bought an Archos - it absolutely destroys the iPod with all it's features.

i have more songs on my mini than most my friends have on their full sized...

Im happy im getting a pair of sennheiser mx 75s a couple days from now:D . Right now im using a crappy pair of cheap-o radioshack earphones. I hate how evereone has white buds but soon ill have neon green ones:D :D :D :D :D

I've seen people in my school with iPod earphones and CD players.

Personally, I haven't used stock earphones in over a year. I upgraded to Apple In-Ear Earphones.

I will admit, though, the chances of being mugged and not knowing the name of the person who did it is pretty low around here.

True. At my school, you can see all the poseurs and the asian gangsters (Not trying to be racist, i'm asian too) wearing the buds on top of their ears just to show that they own an iPod and they're part of some elite club or something. It really annoys me, especially when you see that they have Shuffles or the 2GB Nano and they're acting like it's all expensive and gangster. When they do that, I usually pull out my 30GB 5.5G and put all the boasting to rest.

I'm the only person in my entire high school with Shure E2's, and I get some pretty strange comments on my "Hearing Aids"

Funny that you all actually care. Your all here b i t c h i n g about people trying to be cool by wearing white earphones, when really, most of us just want to hear music, and don't want to spend $100 on a pair of HEADPHONES. I've never used richboy earphones, and in my naivety probably never will, because the stock/$5 ones do exactly what I want.

Is it really worth 100-200 bucks just to make your music sound better? I love my music the way it is and can't imagine it being any better, and don't reallt need it to because I love the way it is already.

ooooh yeeaah... :D it really is. first, read what others are saying, they can't all be lying. try head-fi.org for one... they are divided by the hi-fi home listeners & the portable users. they drool over each others pictures of their portable set ups. some go to extremes of getting amps, cable upgrades & modding the ipods internals (red wine audio imod) - it's like a never ending quest!! i'm not quite there yet though ;)

i was happy with ibuds. they broke. got some cx300's. better fit & sound. then i was looking for headphones for mixing & synth duties - tried a set of hd25's hooked up to something - they've never left my ipod - when i connected them it was like, a mad rush, like being on a ride, could not look back.

until you compare with something else there is no point worrying about it. avoid trying out headphones in audio shops if you never ever intend spending on any!!! i soon realised ipod was only 50% of the set up. personally i believe ipods should be shipped without any headphones, much better to find your own. there's even various white models out there.
