My incase Multifunction Sport Case review (60g test!)

Ok, first of all, while ilounge is a GREAT site and has TONS of information I just couldnt find much info on cases with armband that would fit a 60g ipod photo. I guess I should attribute this to the fact that the 60g hasnt been out all that long but, it just seemed weird to me that NOONE had any real reviews or experience with such a case. After at least a week of searching the web for a solution that would be guaranteed to work (something that said will work with 60g ipods), I had to face the fact that there just wasnt anything out there yet. I read ONE post where an incase owner said that their Incase Sport Case worked on their 60g but I wanted more! Once I made the decision to try the Incase case (THANK YOU ILOUNGE OFFICIAL REVIEW!!) I became frustrated, once again, when I tried to find a store that carried this particular case (despite its recent review on ilounge (8.30.05)!! The case was not even listed on Incase's new website! I had to go into their old 2004 website in order to locate it. Turns out, Apple carries it and this is where I purchased it.

By the way, I called and emailed incase 5 times to inquire about this case and did not receive ONE email or phone call back! I should have given them big finger and went with another brand but I was so far into this quest that I couldnt bear to quit at that point! So, I crossed my fingers closed my eyes and hit SUBMIT ORDER!

After over a week of waiting my case finally came. I have to say, so far I am impressed. I plan on using it at the gym tonight to get a better feel for how its going to work out, but so far I cant foresee any problems.

Fit: As far as fit goes, my 60g fit in perfectly. I have no problems sliding it in and out of the case yet its nice and snug when the case is all zipped up.

Scratching: I have not seen any scratching problems with the case (even around the zipper area). The only suggestion I would make is to pull the zipper away from the ipod while zipping to avoid any possible scratches.

Function: I will use this case almost exclusively with the arm band so it was pretty important that the arm band work well. So far in my running in place test (Think Jim Carey, D&D) it has held up well. There is a little wobble, but for such a large ipod, I couldnt expect much better performance. I will add to this little review after I have had a chance to really use it in the field. One thing that I would like to see on it, though, is a clear plastic cover for the wheel as it is the only part of the ipod that is not covered. Also, if the elastic arm band portion was wider at the ipod itself I feel that this would greatly increase rigidity and the wobbles would probably be all but gone.

Fit (body): Ok, here is where I see that there could be a potential problem. My arms measure approx 16 flexed and I have to wear the strap at its second to last Velcro tab. With one tab left I feel that there will quite a few people out there with larger arms that will run out of strap. I dont know if there are extension straps available or not but that would be the only solution. I dont have any test data yet on smaller arms but I should have something by this weekend on this as well.

Conclusion: So far I really like this case and I cant wait to put it through its paces. Its build quality seems top notch as does the fit. A wider, longer arm band would be a welcome addition but for all that you get for $35.00 its quite the bargain!! I would absolutely recommend this case to anyone with a 60g ipod.

blitzpb,

I'm interested in this case, but I'm intent on being able to use it OVER my Radtech PodSleeve. The PodSleeve is very thin (app. 1mm), but it's just bulky enough to make my existing Marware Sportsuite Convertible too tight for comfort around my 60 gb iPod with color display. The Marware case was pretty tight BEFORE I put on the PodSleeve, but now it's too tight. How much give is there in the Multifunction case?

My ipod slides in pretty easily. It is when you go to zip it up that you notice any kind of tightness. You have to, essentially, stretch the case a wee bit to get the zipper around. I think this stretching is due more to me wanting to avoid scratching the bottom of the ipod with the zipper. I think that it would be pretty tight with a skin on the ipod but I dont know about impossible.

I hope that helps a bit
