I gave my grandson a 512 Suffle for his birthday in August. He loves it, but has been moaning about it not behaving exactly as advertised. I ignored most of his whining as the normal angst of a 15-year-old, but then the other day, the family iBook wouldn't boot - screen black. Grandson had told me the previous week that even with the brand new power cord and brick, the light around the power cord was mostly orange (not green like it should be)

Long story short, the iBook is in the shop so I have the Shuffle to charge it up for grandson.

Plugged the Shuffle in to a USB port on my PowerBook and no lights on the Shuffle - shouldn't there be an orange light if it's charging?

Also the Shuffle doesn't show up in iTunes or on the desktop.

The "demon" thing is that now the green ring on the power cord of my PB has started glowing orange - even though it's remained plugged in as it always is.

I have two other iPods - a 60GB and nano and they both work fine on this computer in iTunes.

I did update the Shuffle last week for him.

Any other suggestions?? I can't restore it if I can't see it can I??
