Well, actually my mom is. I have tried uninstalling iTunes, and reinstalling it, and I have reset the shuffle as well. I can't get the computer or iTunes to recognize the shuffle so I cant do a complete restore on it. Any help at all would be great!!!

Yeah this is a sucky problem - for those who don't know. Basically when you plug in the shuffle all that happens is on the front, the light rapidly blinks green. ITunes sees nothing, Windows sees nothing, your little Ipod LED Reference card says nothing about it.

Heres someone who had the problem... You have to paste the link... only "established members" can post URLs.. even when its to ilounge.com.. omg. lol

forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?threadid=90842&highlight=blinking+green

So it seems that some theorized that the rapidly blinking green light means that the Shuffle has insufficient power to mount. So some just bought a new USB card (~$15 USD) and had no more problems.

I tried getting a new card.. with still no luck. So right now:
-on my newer comp with onboard 2.0 USB ports on an Asus mobo - doesn't work
-on my newer comp with a new USB 2.0 card installed - doesn't work
-on my old comp (about 6 yrs old) with USB 1.1 ports - works

Grr.. so had to move all my music to my older comp just for my shuffle. Not very happy about that.

Appreciate any help or other experiences with this rapidly blinking green light.

cheers

Gosh.. not about to replace my PSU just for my Shuffle.. gah. One place suggested it was the Shuffle's battery. hrm might have to consider that.

The idea that certain USB devices might suck up too much power or cause interference sounds plausible too.. maybe try unplugging all your other USB devices?

Damn I'm good. Haha fixed it!! Well this fix isn't necessarily going to work for everyone... anyway I was thinking more about how people were theorizing it was a power/usb issue...

I had built my computer so I decided to be brave, and look around and see if I could come up with anything. After going through the manual I noticed that there are some pins with jumpers near my USB drive. The manual said:

Set these jumpers to _5V to allow wake up from the S1 sleep state (CPU stopped; RAM refershed; system running in low power mode) using the connected USB devices.

Set to +5vsb to allow wake up from S3 sleep state (no power to CPU; RAM in slow refresh; power supply in reduced power mode).

The default setting for the three jumpers is +5B because not all computers have the appropriate power supply

Anyway so I switched the jumpers so it'd be on +5VSB and BAM it works! Man...

Btw I have a Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo. Hmm any people with electrical knowledge want to enlighten me on why this works? hahaha

cheers,

I had the same problem, looks like you have to boot and reboot, then mount the shuffle and remount. All's working fine now, will have to see about the battery thing. Right now I have it plugged into external charger (not the PC USB).

I had the same problem over a USB 1.1 connection. A quad-USB hub is connected to my USB port and the Shuffle is connected on this one.

At times the Shuffle green led keeps blinking. All I do is unplug all hardware from the USB hub (mouse, webcam or scanner), reset the Shuffle and plug it FIRST. It always works.
