Nano OR Video iPods

Besides the small form factor and 4GB capacity of the Nano, why not spend the extra $50 bucks and flip for the new 30GB iPod Video?

I'd love to be able to download and watch video podcasts as they become available. I'd also like to keep my 9+ gigs of music handy as I listen to a wide variety daily.

I've also heard several instances where the Nano screen scratches very easily and has charging issues as well. Has anyone heard of anything else? I'm sure the Video has it's own shortcomings, but it's too new to know.

It sounds to me like the Video is the way to go, but I thought I get a second opinion. Thoughts?

Thanks,
_rs

If video and space means more to you than the smallness of the nano then get a video ipod. That is the only real difference between the two.

I think the biggest difference between the two is the flash memory of the nano versus the HD of the video ipod. It's obvious the video ipod is the favorite for dollars per gig of space. Also, I thought the video ipod has the same coating as the nano so scratching problems are going to be the same for both models I assume - however I've never held a video ipod.

Both of them have scratching issues so make sure you pick up a case eitheir way. I used to have a 40 gig iPod Photo but I got rid of it and got the nano because I never ended up using it because it was so large to carry around. My co-worker has the iPod Video 30 gig and it's a pretty good size. Based on your needs I'd go for the latter.

OK ... so it sounds like I'm leaning more towards the Video iPod. I need the disc space, I like the bigger screen, I don't mind carrying around a larger device, and I don't anticipate working out with it so the HD should be just fine.

My follow up questions involve that nifty new Apple connector they've been talking about. Are there accessories on the market yet for the new iPod Video connector? From checking out MacWorld magazine, they're saying you'll need a special connector. Is this true?

Thanks for the feedback.

For me, I don't really care that much about size, but the flash would have been handy for working out. (I don't do it, but if I had music, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. Maybe.)

But I ended up going with the video-capable iPod. Just because of the extra space, it could be handy for storing files and such. And the large screen is nifty too.

Josh IMHO a good decision, as you may get tired of shuffling music back-and-forth as your music collection grows. So you're going to have to change your sig now right? ;)

The connector on the 5G iPod with video support is the same that's been used since the 3rd generation iPod. Some accessories already work. Apple did get rid of the extra connector near the headphone jack. Accessories that used that port need to be redesigned to work with the 5G iPod.

I am happy with the Nano. I don't see a need for carrying around that much music. I had a hard time filling my 2 gig Nano. I have a ton of music on my computer, but no real need to carry around all of it. To me, watching video on such a small screen just isn't all that appealing. I'll just stick to using my iPod as an mp3 player, thanks.

Matters what you want. Do you want something you can actually fit in your pocket? Or is video and storage size a big deal for you. The "you can get 'xx' gb more of storage for only $50 more" arguement has been around since the mini and yet it didn't stop it from becoming the top selling model.

Maybe go play with both in person?
