Problem charging my iPod Nano...
So I'm having a problem charging my ipod nano. I connect it to the usb port and it just doesnt work. The thing is its worked before and when I plug in the ipod now the apple screen comes up then goes to a screen with a battery and a lightning bolt. its sort of like the charging screen except its not in color and only the lightning bolt is on the rear part of the battery.
I've looked at the manual for troubleshooting options and I've also looked at the troubleshooting part of apples website and nothing I do seems to fix it.
What I've tried...
-Resetting the ipod
-Plugging the ipod into other usb ports (on my comp and different pcs)
At the momment I think its the cable but I'm not to sure since there is a response when I plug the ipod into my pc (goes from a blank screen to the apple screen then to the weird sorta charging screen)
Also this symbol I'm seeing I havent been able to find on the web...
please help I really want to use my ipod.

Sounds like you're getting communication connectivity via the USB, without the power for charging your iPod. If you've tried other computers and had the same result, have you tried another iPod with your cable? This would tell you if it was the cable or not. And any iPod with a Dock Connector would do.

This is my first iPod so I havent tried the cable with another one yet... Although I'll have to find someone and try. I was also thinking maybe I should just get a new cable however since I just got the iPod I don't think the cable that came with it should be messing up so soon you know?

I have the same basic problem. It seems to have occurred sometime after I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (6.01.3 a few days ago)
What happens for me is that I get a tiny charging logo in the upper right corner of the screen. Then the Do Not Disconnect message comes up as iTunes loads.
Once iTunes loads the charging stops. I have only 1/2 capacity and it's dropping.
It doesn't look like a cable problem.
Try connectiong your iPod using the 'disk mode' combo. What does this mean?

I think I figured out what Disk Use means. I just got off support with Apple.
The tech there told me to make the following change in iTunes
Edit->Preferences->iPod
and check [X] Enable Disk Use
This keeps the connection with the iPod active and enables the charging to continue. He said it will be necessary to eject the device when I'm done.
Evidently this is an iTunes issue. From what I understand after speaking with him, when you first connect your iPod, iTunes doesn't get involved so the Nano charges nicely just off the USB port.
Once iTunes gets installed, things get screwy and the default situation is that the iPod will charge from the point of physical connection up until the point at which iTunes boots and the device is autoupdated and "auto ejected." From then on, it doesn't charge anymore even though it's still physically connected, it just goes to sleep.
The tech said he did not know if that situation was entirely normal but he had a few calls and that was the solution. He wasn't sure if it was related only to certain iPods or slow speed ports, or what.
this sounds completely wacky to me. I want to be able to charge the device without necessarily having to wait for iTunes to load up and goof around. I have never had anything electronic need this much babysitting just to charge. :(

Matt
