It sounds like you want a 20g Nano. I do, too. However given your two choices, you need to decide what's more important to you...small form factor and small memory vs. larger size with more memory. Here's how I made my decision:
I originally had a 30g Creative Jukebox..fantastic, but I really only used about 15g, and I was loading my entire cd collection on it...crap and all. I ended up cycling through all the garbage to listen to what I really wanted to hear (which was only about 3g of music)!. Secondly, I wear tight jeans, so the jukebox was a bit of a hassle to carry...related to that, I work out at the gym daily, and the nano is much easier to leave in my shorts pocket. Lastly, I don't use my MP3 player to hold photos or watch shows, I use it for only one purpose....to immerse me in my favorite music while being as unobtrusive as possible.
Nano hands down.

Ask yourself
1. Where will you mainly use the iPod. If its just day to day use, or active use like at a Gym then the Nano is far more convenient to carry and less likely to break. If you are not as active then the larger size of the photo iPod will not be such a problem, and you don't have to worry about wrecking its hard disk.
2. How much music do you have, and how much do you actively listen to. If its not much, and/or you don't feel the need to have large quantities carried around with you then the nano wins again. If you have a lot of music, and like the ability to choose anything at anytime then the photo is for you.
I have both iPods. As I do a lot of travel the photo iPod is useful to give me a lot of musical variety on the road, but when I am home the nano gives me more than enough music to go on with if I am at the gym or somewhere close at hand to the computer. And as davewnyc says most listeners (including me) tend to only listen to a small section of their collection at any time, and it can get quite tedious scrolling through the big iPods endless list of artists trying to find the 4 or 5 albums that you are really interested in anyway. So for day to day use I agree the nano wins!
