Used USB 1.1 for a couple days before dropping a USB 2.0 card in my PC. All I can say is you better be patient. It'll work but the syncing takes forever.

I use it for charging and transferring. I am not willing to drop a 2.0 card in my parents PC, so I am am holding out until I buy an ibook to step up to 2.0.

Yes the transfer is slow, but not unbearable. It also charges fine. Just be sure to use onee of the ports on the back of your box. The front USB ports on most PCs don't have enough juice to charge things.

Yup, the transfer will work, but it's a bit slow. I will emphasize that you really need to make sure you're using a port which charges (you'll see the battery icon pop up right away). My charged ports on in the front of my Dell box (the back ones do not charge at all)

I believe he said exactly "you'll see the battery icon pop up right away".

so 1.1 can charge at the same rate as 2.0,
but is slower at transferring songs?

Yes. Transfering 500 mb takes about 20 minutes, compared with maybe a minute or two on USB 2.0.

wow! i have usb 1.1 and thought it was relatively fast. i transferred 2.8 gb of music in just under an hour perhaps? i know i don't have usb 2.0, none of my family's computers do, but i didn't think it would be THAT much faster. i might just have to get a pci card soon...

oh yeah, on my gateway (yr 2000 model?) the front ports are charged.

I really love this forum. The "signature quotes" are very clever (electrons being inconvenienced, for example....) and I like the somewhat "snappy" responses. Have a great week and thanks for the laffs...

got my nano now and the usb 1.1 works perfectly. charges and sysncs fine, except once it froze when I connected it to the computer, but I think that was because the headphones were still connected it. Reset now and seems to be workin fine
very pleased with it, especially with my zcover on now.

I'm technical, but not sure how to do that. Just google your computer model (I'm assuming it's not custom built) and it should tell you on the makers website. If your computer is fairly new and you have XP it most likely has a 2.0 high speed port.

also, try thwe back ports, many have ports on teh front, and those may not be 2.0 (my front ones [dell] are 1.1, while the back ones are 2.0)...

you will also get a message when you plug it in, recommending that it workds better on a 2.0 port...
