Pseudo-autofill - how?
I use my Nano as a bridge between my 60G 4G and my shuffle (I guess that makes me an ipod junkie)
On the Nano I want a selection of my most recent favourite albums so that I can listen to them as an album, but also a random selection of my favourites so that I can put it on Shuffle play and get album tracks and random favourites.
I've done this by creating two playlists in iTunes - a 'nano albums' playlist into which I dump all the tracks I definitely want on there, and a 'nano random' which is a Smart Playlist with a random selection limited by size.
Two questions: first, how do I refresh the Smart Playlist so that it selects a different 1500M of tracks? Increasing or decreasing the size of the selection just seems to add or remove tracks from the existing selection rather than creating a fresh selection.
Second, wouldn't it be nice if I could just say 'sync the nano albums playlist, and fill the rest with as much of the nano random playlist'. Can anyone think of a smart way to do this?

# 1 Re: Pseudo-autofill - how?
My usual way to get a new selection of tracks is simply to delete all the tracks from the smart playlist in itunes and let it reselect them randomly. If you have some kind of date selection condition, such as "last played is not in the last 5 days" or something, it pretty much guarantees you will get a selection you haven't heard yet, even if they are not all totally different to before. Then resynch with the iPod.
The second question I am not aware of a way to do this without an error message. Maybe you could simply get the smart playlist to fill up with 4GB of music in iTunes, then as long as your self selected playlist is loaded onto the iPod first, the iPod should then continue to fill up from the smart playlist until it runs out of room. This of course won't work if the self selected playlist doesn't load first. Any idea of the order iTunes loads tracks onto the iPod - maybe it is in the alphabetical order of the playlists if you are synching to several? I have my nano on manual synch so can't test out if this works.
