Need some help (I think invisible shield killed my nano)

Sup guys,

I finally got my nano yesterday. I quickly applied the invisible shield on it, and waited a full 24 hours before turning it on again. When the countdown was over, I turnt it on for the first time, plugged in on pc, and everything seemed to work fine, I transferred successfully photos and music unto it, then I left it to charge. Periodically, I'd unplug it (I made sure I disconnect it first) to check on the battery, to see if it was charging, and it seemed to be draining instead. I plugged it back, disconnect sign goes back up, and I let it "charge". I went to take an hour nap, coming back to the PC, nothing seemed to have change, the PC was still on, but the nano was dead. I'm not sure if this was due to the water that "might've slipped" through the scrollwheel or if the battery is defective.

Wether it'd be one or the other, I might have to get an exchange. I wonder if I have to pay any restocking fee or something if I bring it to my local apple store (I purchased it on the canadian website, but I'm sure I can exchange it at any Apple retail store)

Any suggestions?

I tried resetting it using the reset (menu+select for 6 secs or more), didn't work. I reinstalled the iPod software, didn't work. I restarted PC, still didn't work. I unplugged the USB to iPod connection, and tried it on other USB ports (actually, I tried it on all of them, and yes, I have USB 2.0 if that answers your question), but still no success. Maybe I'd have to wait a day for the water to absorb (hypothesis)? Or I can just take the IS off and return it for another one >.<

Also to note : I even tried switching cables with my mini's connections to see if the problem lies within the cable, but the problem is still there. Heck, I even switched to my other PC with iTunes, and the iPod Nano still doesn't turn on! This is too bad, it is a terrific product, but it has too many bugs...

keep toggling the hold switch on and off a couple times and then try to turn it on.

Unfortunately, if you didn't use it before you applied the IS you'll never really know if the water was the problem. How much water did you use? How did you apply it?

Good news is you should be able to get a new one without problem. Just take off the IS and don't mention it at all when you return it.

SlamMan, thx for the advice, I know I shouldn't have that much trouble getting an exchange. Anyone familiar with exchanges with apple stores? This is my first time doing this, what will I need to bring exactly, my invoice that I got from the mail, all the stuff that came with the package, and the nano (of course, with the IS off), anything else of importance? Can any Apple Retail store in my location (Toronto) accept exchanges from items purchased at the online store?

I wouldn't think water slipping through the scroll wheel would be a problem, since my nano has been completely submerged in a toilet and came out unharmed.

Just bring everything you mentioned. You'll be fine.

Sevaan has a good point. If the toilet won't do it I doubt IS will.

i say wait a day, then try charging it again. are you using USB 2.0 for anything else? need to update drivers, by chance?

d-bear, I don't think it is a USB 2.0 outdated driver, because all my ports can recharge my iPod Mini anyway. Secondly, I do have USB 2.0, because my transfers are fast and because this PC is pretty new (Dual Core 3.0 Ghz Processors with 1GB PC3200 Ram and 250 Gb harddrive, HP Powered Windows XP Media Center System). Its been 1 day now, I'll test again my iPod, maybe the battery might've been a little wet or something, and when dry, works again. I'll keep you guys updated. In the meantime, I'll have to start searching for Apple stores around my area ^^

Ya, I think the battery is definitely defective, cuz its dead. I've left for approximately the whole night, went to school, come back home, tested the Nano, still won't turn on. I guess its really a broken down piece of hardware, might as well return it. But dangit! I've waited over half a month for this to ship in from Apple, and now that I get it, its broken with a defective battery that can't hold charges or something... I hope Apple stores are restocked with black 4GB nanos now at my local area...
