"Cannot disconnect iPod..."

I tried to disconnect my iPod this morning and a box came up that says, "Cannot disconnect iPod because files on it are being used" or something like that. I exited iTunes, then re-opened it and disconnected it and it worked. What does this mean?

Sometimes the iPod thinks it is still using something, even when it's not, or at least you think it is not. Usually closing down all programs will free the iPod from the use of any files it thinks it might be using and allows you to disconnect

Yeah, when something like this happens, I just shut down my entire computer. I've done it about half a dozen times in the last week and a half that I have had my Nano.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER!!!

I too had this problem and figured out how to fix it.

If it says that, all you have to do is the following:

1.) Go Into iTunes
2.) On the left-hand menu, there should be a choice there labeled "****name's*** iPOD"
3.) Right-click on it, select EJECT
4.) Thank me for saving you the headache of figuring this quirky iTunes issue out.

Clicking "eject" doesn't always work. When my Mini used to say that I just pulled the plug out of the iPod, lol. My Nano's done it once so far...I jsut pulled it out anyway. I guess I could damage the firmware by doing that?

Hmmm, I wouldn't recommend it.

Make sure you get the latest version of iTunes off of Apple's website, and try it again.

Mine Nano keeps doing this as well - it is so annoying!

I have found that using the eject botton on the bottom right in iTunes is more reliable than the eject icon that sits next to the name of your Nano on the top left.

Yeah, that should work too. I think it's just important for people to realize that you don't have to shut down your computer in order to disconnect the ipod.
