Do I need to install the CD to use the Nano?
I already had iTunes installed on my PC before I bought my nano, so I figured that I didn't need to install the software on the CD-ROM that came with it. But now there seems to be a few bugs. Often, my nano doesn't do the auto-update correctly, and sometimes, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen stays on my nano and does not go away.
So, is it necessary to install the CD? Will this fix my problems?

That's because you need to at least download the iPod updater:

All that does is update the firmware on the nano. Mine is already up to date.
I'm just wondering.. is there such a thing as "iPod Software" that I'm supposed to install on my PC? Or, am I fine with just iTunes?

The only software needed is the software updater which you already have. After that all you need is a program to upload songs, and you chose iTunes. Often better to get iTunes from the apple site than the CD as it is usually an updater version. I can not imagine that the issues you suggest would be from not using the CD to install software (all it has is the updater and iTunes, which you already have).
Yo may consider restoring the iPod and see if that helps you issues.
