you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
this 2gig Nano was my first iPod...first DAP...but lately i've been getting the sneaking suspicion that i should have saved a few more $$ and gone with a 4th gen 20gig. my reasons for getting the Nano were physical size, memory size, flash-based, and cost. 3/4 of those reasons were so that i could take it out riding. now that i've dropped the money on it, though, i'm not comfortable doing that. i still enjoy how small it is, and that it's flash-based, but they have no real benefits for me, since i'm not going to take it out while on the trails.
anyone else starting to second-guess their purchase?

yeah you should've thought about your investment more wisely. tsk tsk tsk people wasting their money like that.
# 2 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
Eh, I bought mine to take skiing with since it was flash-based, and i'm still going to take it skiing :D I'll buy a case for it and hope that helps, but I don't think the LCD will break even under a fair bit of pressure if it was under a case.

I'm not... This is my first ipod and I'm totally happy with it. All I've been wanting was a decent sized flash based mp3 player so I could use it while running and working out. The nano obviously fits the bill perfectly.
Can't you still just pay $25 and get the rest of your money back?

kind of hard to think about stuff like that when i have nothing to relate it to.
if i wanted to make a wise investment, i'd throw the money into a mutual fund, and not spend it on an mp3 player.

Dbear I think that when you get a sports case you should feel confident about it, and I would check the artechna site that shows what they did to the nano and what the affect was.

i've only been snowboarding once. i can't remember what the impacts were like from falling, except when i caught a heel edge and knocked my head. do you crash pretty hard, or is it softened by the snow?

You had better buy a waterproof case like the otterbox for it.
The otterbox case is waterproof and shock proof, and is coming out for the nano.

I ordered 2GB nano, like 3 days after nano came out.
while it was shipping it to me, i second thought about the purchase,
thinking that I might be needing more space, so I decided to return
the 2GB to local Apple store and ordered 4GB. I think I will be happy
with my 4GB.

There will be many more times in your lifetime that you will do things like this little grasshopper. Be glad that this wasn't a life/death or your well being decision. $249 is a drop in the bucket to other more important decisions that you will be making in your future.
Have you seen one of these before, it's the world's smallest mp3 player:

d-bear, when I crash it's usually pretty hard, but since it's under a jacket/hoody/a case it shouldn't be too bad for the nano.
y0ungkwang, thanks for the advice - i'll definately look in to the otterbox.

i know it's a relatively small decision, but i rarely spend that kind of money on myself, outside of bicycles.
i saw that player just the other day (on CNET, not in person). i'd have to get a stronger prescription to read it, i think. or i might eat it, thinking it was a crispy crouton.

Why would you want a square mp3 player? Its not going to feel comfortable in your pocket. Flat mp3 players are fine.
# 16 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
i must say, im feeling a little down on the nano purchase as well. i mean, it was really nice for the first couple of days, then it was like, why is this thing so small?
it has served me well running, but my 1.5gb rio forge was doing fine for that as well.
i dont really want to return my nano, but i do want a new color 20gb ipod as well. my current 20gb is beat like no other.
it was $263 total, but it feels so delicate i dont want to use it, while the bigger ones i always felt comfortable handling.
lately ive been thinking "neat toy, should have gotten a used one"
but now that i have it, i guess thats that.
# 17 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
I dont see how you could regret buying one? This is definately the best iPod ive ever owned. It feels like nothings in your pocket. Well I guess if you have more than a thousand songs you might want something different but whatever.

# 19 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
d-bear, so you don't think getting a strong, hard case would easy your mind about taking the nano out riding?
and like someone else mentioned, if you really want to return, you can still do it w/in 30 (?) days and just pay the restocking fee--paying like $25 would be better than having a $250 ipod that you don't like.
# 20 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
whats taht one case thats like aluminum armor stuff? if they made that for the nano, that would be sweet

case might set my mind at ease. we'll see...so many neato cases coming out, it's going to be hard to pick just one, you know?

# 22 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
ipod2genman - Don't buy that crap. My sister asked me what I wanted for my bday and since I couldnt convince her that I was fine without anything I asked her to pick me up an ipod armor since she's in vancouver, and they had it in stock there but not in calgary where I am. She got it and I used it whenever I went skiing...this thing is the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. I drop it and it opens up, yeah, IT OPENS UP! lol absolute crap in my opinion.

# 23 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
i've had second thoughts. thoughts that "boy am i glad i didnt get the 2gb version and went with the 4". i upgraded to this ipod from a 128mb samsung yepp. i thought abotu getting the 2gb becuase i dont have that much music, but now that I have the 4gb, it didnt take me long to find and put songs on there.
in relation to how delicate it is, its not. if you guys are really that worried about it getting scratched, just get a skin and you should be good to go. I doubt its anymore delicate than a cellphone or another ipod... probably less.
# 24 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
i never said anything about scratches. i don't think anyone else has, either. i'm more worried about taking a dive, and putting heavy, non-uniform loads on the Nano.

# 25 Re: you know, im sort of questioning my Nano purchase
I say stop second guessing your decsion and enjoy your nano. Many ipodders have more then one ipod. I have 3 (4gb mini, 4gb nano, and 20gb U2) each serves its purpose in a different way, all sync with itunes on the same PC. You will eventually get a 2nd ipod, so next time get a 20gb or higher. My gut feel is by this time next year Apple will have a 20gb flash drive nano for the price we are now paying for the 4 gb. At that time Apple will start to phase out the HD ipods. In the next two years flash drives will advance to the 100gb+ level. This gives you a year to save your money.
