Problem restoring replacement iPod

I had to get a replacement iPod from Apple since my original unit had the Exclamation Folder icon and would no longer work.

The replacement came in yesterday and I've run the iPod updater as instructed by the paper that came with the iPod. The updater seemed to run just fine, and I got so far as getting the message to plug my iPod into an outside power source (a message on the computer monitor told me to do so and there was an icon on the iPod screen).

So I plugged the iPod into an outlet in the kitchen and nothing happens. The icon on the screen has not changed. I left it plugged in for a few minutes and still nothing happens.

I've tried several outlets in the apartment with no luck -- the icon remains. I've even tried to restore the iPod again, but it doesn't seem like the computer even recognizes it as neither the 'Update' or 'Restore' buttons light up when I plug the iPod in.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to what my next step is? Do I need to now call Apple Support and tell them about it? If so, does anyone have a number handy?

Sounds like you have a faulty cable or charger. Your next step would be to take it to one of your local apple stores and determine if its the charger or the ipod itself. While there you can buy a new cable or whatever, and if its your ipod you can return it for a new one.
