Smart playlists
I have a smart playlist which has as one parameter Last Played is not in the last 1 month and the Limit to 1 hour selected by random.
This gave me a playlist I could play again and again without plugging my Ipod into my computer that was always changing.
I recently upgraded the firmware on my 4G 40Gb iPod to Version 3.1 and find the list only updates when I connect to the computer...
Any ideas why ?

Yes, http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104558 - see this thread. Live updating is disabled & will only do this when you connect it to the computer.
You can restore the iPod using a previous firmware 2005-03-23 or 26 Updater if you want live updating. If you had that updater then look on your computer under iPod in the list of programs and you'll find it if you haven't deleted it or re-installed your OS. If your using a Mac then it's under Utililties>iPod.

Checked out the other thread and found a kind soul had a link to download the appropriate installer and was able to downgrade the firmware to 3.0.2 from 3.1 and got the live updating feature back.
