Help with Ipod to Sony CDX-CA710X

I recently purchased and Ipod and I would like to connect it to my car stereo. I bought a RCA Y adapter. On the back of the stereo I have a "bus" audio in with red and white connectors and an audio out rear red and white connection. When I plugged it to the "bus" connection I got nothing, even switching through the modes only gave me cd or my radio. When I ran it through the audio out rear I did get sound in the rear speakers but I also got either the radio or cd playing as well. I know they do sell a sony component that allows you to add an Ipod, but I thought there had to be a better and cheaper way. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no direct AUX input on that unit, unless you buy an aux adapter for it from Sony. I had that same radio and just bought another radio with an AUX input on the front since Sony wants about $100 for that adapter.
