Alpine Ipod adapter

I havn't purchased an iPod or the alpine adapter yet. But i need to know a couple crucial features.

If i do purchase this setup i would leave the iPod in the vehicle most of the time. When you start your car does the iPod automaticly power up? and when i turn off my vehicle will the iPod power down. i don't want to have to open my glove box and turn the thing on all the time.

i want it to be entirely self sefficient/invisble and maintenence free.

your experiences would be great.

It's switches off when the HU switches off, and on again when the HU switches on (I've just checked it to make sure).

Mine is pretty much always in the car, I don't even think about it now.

that's perfect. and just another question from your experience. I plan to organize all of my music into playlists per alpine's recommendation. When switching from playlist to playlist and song to song, what kind of delays do you experience.? or seaching a specific artist. This seems to be the major complaint of most people. I want to confim if this is true, or just the ingnorance of those who did not organize/optimize there collections properly.

On rare occasions, I've had my iPod continue playing. I've made it a habit to always hit the pause button on the HU before turning off the ignition.

Selecting playlists is pretty quick (at least on my set-up, 9812 HU), and then going from track to track is also quick.

To be honest, I haven't worked out how to search within a playlist yet. :(

If you want to search the iPod in general, then it's better to unplug the thing and do it from there, get the song playing and then plug it back in.

It may be that newer HU are better (possibly those with the touch-strip thing), but otherwise it's pretty slow at searching.
