I have the same car and the same challenge. I can't find any adapters. I've used a cassette adapter that works flawlessly in a newer Toyota, but it randomly ejects or plays so faintly that it is not useful. About 1 time in ten it goes in and works fine. That isn't sufficient for me.
I've researched *everywhere*, but I can't find any adapters. It has a CD changer function that isn't attached, but I can't find any commercial adapters for it. I can't find any wiring diagrams or instructions for using it either. If I select the CD changer button, nothing happens.
TuneFM works OK, but not great. It is audible and convenient, but I find the audio quality lacking. It is better than AM, but not as good as a decent FM station.
Has anyone had any success? I have a bit of skill with a soldering iron (and my dad is an electrical engineer), but I am concerned that I might break the Bose head unit.

If you have a cassette player and don't mind not being able to use it, you can solder a wire directly to the inputs in the cassette player. This will bypass any sound processing that is usually done on a tape and it will go pretty much directly to the speakers.
I've done it on a 350z, 2001 Camry, and an old Civic.
Buy the cheapest headphones you can ($1.99 at Big Lots here). Open them up, remember which wires go to left and right. Usually they will have a similar color in both, which is ground. The others are for Left and Right. Take your whole stereo apart and unplug/cut the traces that lead to your cassette player's head reader. Find the ground and solder the ground wires to it. Find the L-ch and R-ch that are past all the resistors/caps/sound processing and solder the other two wires to that. Put it together and plug in.
Its really easy to do. Sorry sort of confusing, but if you have any asian friends (Pretty much only my asian friends know anything about electronics) who know their way around electronics, ask them about this and they can probably do it for you.
