Connecting my iPod to my JVC Kd-sh9700 car stereo

Im going to connect my ipod to my car stereo and i have been going through these forums for a while and i think i know what i need to get.

1. JVC KS-U58 Input Adapter from crutchfields site

Just plug one end to the cd changer plug on the back of my stereo and the other end to the headphone jack on the ipod?

is this all correct? or am i missing a step?

I already tried an fm tuner which sucked
And i tried a Belkin Y audio cable adapter. The problem with that is that i have two front and two rear aux inputs on the back of my stereo and the cable only has two plugs. So only two speakers had sound but it did sound clear but thats not what i want.

if there is any other adapter i should use let me know please :)
i found another cable called (Nyko Stereo Link Cable and FireWire Adaptor)it plugs into the bottom of the ipod and has two rca plugs on the other end. But if i plug that into the back of my car stereo arent I only going to be able to play sound out of two speakers in my car?

Yep, you've got just about everything right. Yes you can use the headphone output to plug into the JVC adapter, however there are 2 things I don't like about this setup.

1) First, if you use the headphone output, you'll have volume control in 2 places, at the iPod and at the headunit. I find this very annoying.
2) The headphone output doesn't put out as good quality sound as the lineout signal. The lineout signal comes out of the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod and you'll need an adapter to use it, like the Nyko one you mentioned. Other adapters that will give you linout include Sendstation, SiK, and the Apple Dock.

And to answer your final question about playing 2 speakers, that's not true at all. Don't worry that there are only 2 RCA plugs, sound will still come out of all 4 speakers.

Well what im confised about is that I have 6 aux plugs and a cd changer plug on the back of my stereo.

front driver
front passenger
rear driver
rear passenger
(2)subwoofer plugs

If I use the nyko it only has to RCA plugs on it. So what aux plugs do I plug it in to?

And if I understand you right your saying I can for example plug the two nyko plugs into the front driver and front passenger and when I play a song it will somehow come out of the rear speakers as well?
I dont know to much about this stuff but for some reason that doesnt seem like it should work like that...

With the nyko model it says you cannot use the cord and charge your ipod at the same time. Does that just mean that I need to turn the Ipod off for the cord to start charging the Ipod?

I guess I will go with the nyko model over the JVC model since its cheaper, sounds like it going to be better sound quality and possibly it ill charge my ipod as well?

Those RCA plugs on the back are OUTPUTS, not INPUTS. Most headunits, except for really high end ones with 5.1 surround capabilities only have 2 discreet channels (left and right) so again, don't worry about all those plugs. The JVC adapter, the one that has the changer plug on one end and the RCAs on the other end, is the only one that should be an input. Plug the Nyko into the JVC adapter input and you're set.

As for charging, the Nyko will not work, try the SiK IMP, Belkin Auto Kit, or the Monster line out plug. All 3 of those have the ability to charge while using the lineout.

Ok i get what your saying about the inputs/outputs now and (left & right channels only) but im a little confused on something. The JVC adpater on crutchfields website doesnt have any RCA's on the end of it just a headphone style mini jack. So how am I suppose to plug it into the RCA's on the Nyko?

So If I bought the JVC adapter and plugged it into the back of the stereo(cd changer port) and the top of the IPOD it would work?

If I bought the NYKO model and plugged it into the bottom of the ipod and plugged the two RCA's into any two of the 6 AUX's in the back it would work(But wont charge the ipod)?

And it looks like if I bought the NYKO i couldnt buy the Sik IMP?

IM STILL CONFUSED!!! hahahahaha

if u do respond try and lay it out for me exactly what I should be buying and what fits into what...im sorry for not understaning this completely. its just that im going to have to buy this stuff online and I dont want to buy something that wont work

Ok, my bad, I missed the one part that the JVC adapter only had the 1/8" as input. If I were you, I'd do this...

1) Get the SiK IMP, Sendstation pocketdock, Belkin Auto Kit, Monster Ultra-Low Profile Charger for iPod, or the Apple Dock. Any of these items will give you a line out and the ability to charge your iPod at the same time. No matter which one you choose, it will plug into the dock connector on the bottom of your iPod.

2) Get a 1/8" to 1/8" plug and plug one end into the adapter you chose in step#1 and the other end into the JVC adapter.

That's it! :)

Ok so im going to buy the SIK IMP and the JVC Adapter.
Tell me if this is right for the wiring.

JVC adapter goes from the CD changer plug on the back of the stereo to a 1/8 plug i need to buy. I plug the 1/8 plug into the 1/8 stereo jack on the sik imp. I plug the sik imp into the cig lighter and the bottom of the IPOD?/

Tell me this though could I still just buy the JVC adapter and plug it in to the back of the stereo and the top of the IPOD and have it work?

You hit the nail on the head with your description!

Yes you could still use the JVC adapter and just plug the 1/8" input on top of the iPod and not buy the SiK imp, but then you'll have the 2 issues I mentioned in my 1st post in this thread. That' completely up to you though. I personally recommend using the SiK imp or something similar.

Keep in mind, If you do choose to use the headphone output as input, you will have still have to get a separate charger to charge the ipod since the SiK imp is the thing that has the charging capabilities.

Ok one last thing...the 1/8 to 1/8 little metal plug is going to be female on one end and male on the other correct?

I'm guessing no, they both should be male cuz the 1/8" on the SiK IMP side is female, and I'm guessing the 1/8" on the JVC side is also female. Therefore, you need a plug with male on both ends.

If that's the case then you don't even need a 1/8" to 1/8" cable if the adapter is long enough to reach the iPod. If it isn't long enough, then get a 1/8" male to 1/8" female.

so wait do I even need to buy the JVC adapter. Couldnt I just go from the SIK IMP to the bottom of the IPOD then from the SIK IMP buy a cord that has two RCA's on one end and a 1/8inch plug on the other and plug the RCA's into the back of the stereo and the 1/8 into the SIK IMP?

Wouldnt that be saving myself 40 bucks from not having to buy the JVC adapter?

YOU NEED the JVC adapter to get a set of RCA inputs on the back of your stereo. As explained before, the existing RCA jacks on the back of your stereo are OUTPUT jacks, not INPUT.
