More Ford Escape questions

I have browsed through older threads concerning this, but I just want to be clear. I would like to find the best option for listening to my iPod in my 2003 Ford Escape. It has a 6 disc changer in-dash.

My concerns include choosing between an FM transmitter (Kensington's new digital transmitter or DLO's Transpod) and a direct line to the rear of my factory stereo. I know that the direct line would be the best quality, but without a din tool and prior knowledge of installing factory stereos, I am a little cautious.

I know that the FM transmitters are getting better as time goes by, but I wanted to revisit this topic to see if there were any new opinions and/or walkthroughs. Thanks!

There's a third alternative if your head unit doesn't have a line-in jack or CD changer port: an FM modulator. The difference between an FM modulator and an FM transmitter is that the modulator is hard wired in the path between your car antenna and head unit. When the modulator is turned on, it cuts off the signal coming from the outside world and substitutes its own radio signal (which is modulated with the audio from your iPod).

Installing it will require extraction of the head unit from the dash, though. Crutchfield sells a couple of FM modulators that should work well.

Hmmmm a transmitter eh? I will look into that, thank you.
I would love to find out what kind of inputs are on the back of the Ford factory stereo. I am going to buy the din tool to remove it from the dash, but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on some adapter that I could bypass by using some ingenuity and a trip to Radio Shack.
