6 volts ok for home made charger?

(Sorry if this is a repeat question - Itunes won't search for "6")
All my wall-wart power supplies are either 4.5 or 6 volts. Will either of these be appropriate for a home made usb power supply for a Video IPOD?
Thanks.

It will probly be cheaper and the result more practical if u get a generic one from eBay.

Technically if its a USB connection it should work (as USB is a certain standard).

Could you link to the wal-mart thingies you got? Or maybe post a picture?

You need to regulate to +5V. I built a small charger out of a 9V battery, 7805 regulator, minibox and USB extension cable.

Sorry for confusion:

Wall Wart is slang for the powersupplies you plug into wall with a big lump by the wall. Things like for your old portable cd player. I have bunches with voltage 3, 4.5, 6, and higher, none of them 5V. I don't trust ebay...

I feel inadequate to discern honest commerce from scam vendors on ebay.

:-(
