Sony MDR-EX71SL alternative

I lost the extension, so the cord can only reach 3 feet which isn't enough if I wear a belt clip. Even though I love my sony buds I would like to know if there is something better.
I love the in ear buds and I wouldnt choose anything but that since I have all the other kinds (ear bud, behind the neck, over the head). I don't want to spend more then $40-50.
I have no opinion about having isolation from outside sounds. I already tried the Koss "The Plug" and Im not impressed so please dont mention those. Im not talking about the sparkplug, but they might be to similar and maybe I don't want those either. The reason i don't like them is because I have a small ear canel.

Your thoughts are appriciated

Get the Sony MDR EX51s, same thing as 71s but with a normal length cord. They're like 30 bucks I think. Good luck.

My sis has those and I'm looking for an alternative instead of the same thing. I might end up with the same, but I want to see the others out there first

if your really lookin for a cheap alternative. why not just buy another extension cord? i'm sure they sell them. Buy one thats shorter than the Sony one so it would be the perfect length when you pocket your ipod

I'm kind of picky and like having the best, which is a bad thing;). So I don't really want an extension that is very thick and heavy. The one that the Sony's come with is extremely light and thin, so you don't realize that you have an extension cord on so much.
I looked into sony.com and found a replacement cord, but after shipping and the expensive cord it would be better to go to amazon and buy a brand new one for $30.
I might end up with a sony again; I just want to make sure that I want it again. I'd much rather have earbuds that didn't have the extension cord.

JVC HA-FX55 Long Cord ( http://www.warehouse123.com/ProductInfo.php?pid=JVCHAFX55-BLK) will be your way to go! Around 25 bucks with shipping! A little bit better than ex71, but bass is a little bit weak! The cord is about 1.5m long. Pretty decent in-ear at low price.

I'm deciding between the Sharp HP-MD33, Panasonic RP-HJE50, and the JVC HA-FX55W because of the good reviews that the others mentioned didn't have as much of. Then I found this great forum thread. It compares the sony 71s, panasonic and the JVCs.

Are all these alternatives to the 71's comes with a plug in extension cord?

While I liked the 71's sound, I hate the ergonomics & add on EXTENSION cord.

That's why I traded down to the 51's. One cord for all ;)
Still, the cord are a little fragile. Must be a family trait.

If you want, I can send you my barely used 71's , it's missing a couple of the earbuds cause I used them for my 51's after I lost them.

Just snd me a couple of bucks for postage & they are yours.
PM if you are interested.

Don't know what your budget is, but take a look at the Shure E2c or UE Super.fi 3. Both are sealed in-ear phones like the EX71 and sell for around $99/pair. The Shure has the added benefit of a great 2 year no-questions-asked warranty and a very thick, heavy duty cord.

The JVC HA-FX55 (which is the US version) does have a single cord (you can get this with or without in line volume control). However, the Japanese version the HP-FX55 does have the short cord with the extension cable. The Panasonic RP-HJE50 has the short/ext system. Depends on what you like, really. I'm in the process of deciding that myself and comparing these two sets of phones.

Well, if you have an armband or a lanyard for your neck; you will apprieciate the short cord. But If you have it in your pockets or use a belt clip the short cord style won't reach without the extension, which can be annoying.

I've not used a set of phones with the short/ext style. Can you not use just the short cord with an armband and minimize the amount of cabling? I thought perhaps that was part of its design idea?
