Re-encoding music.
Hey guys. I bought some e3cs a couple of weeks back, and i want to improve the sound quality. My music (almost all of it) is ripped at 128 kpbs. How do I go about re-encoding to say, 192 kpbs? I appreciate your help.
P.S: I (think) i know how but i just want to make sure before i spend a few hours on this. Do i just go to "Edit--Preferences", go to "importing" and then change it to 192? So then once i have it i just go to my music folders on my computer and then put them in my library again....???
PPS: Whats Apple Lossless?

Yeah, just change your importing settings and raise it to a higher bitrate. Your music should automatically be imported into your library.
Apple Lossless is going to give you the highest quality possible. The only downside to this format is that it takes up much more space than AAC and mp3 files. It uses compression methods without discarding any information, so when played back it reproduces the same quality as the original source. If you want to significantly improve audio quality and you have the space on your iPod, this is your answer.
One other way to improve sound quality without re-encoding your music is to get a headphone amplifier. Shure earphones don't put out their full potential when matched with iPods. An amp should do the trick here.

I would discourage you from converting your music to a higher bitrate once it has been imported, as it will loose quality. Converting files from 128kbps to 192kbps will actually result in a loss of quality! To have higher quality files you will need to reimport the songs from the original CDs.

Yeah, what Tom said is right. When I posted my reply, my assumption was that you were going to re-encode from your CD collection. Make sure that you do it this way, otherwise your music will ultimately suffer.
