can you select a song to play next without interrupting current song?

can you select a song to play next without interrupting current song? For instance I am listening to a song, I then want to hear a song right after that song I am listening to. Is there any possible way to select that song so it plays right after the current playing song without interruption. I know how to make an "on the go playlist" this would be really on the go. Not sure if this is possible yet. Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine wanted me to consult the experts, I didn't think it could be done, but now that I am thinking more about it, it's a simple yet great feature. I'll have tol break it to him gently, lol.

What I really want is a "Jukebox Mode". What really frustrates me is that unless you've used an iPod before it really isn't intuitive how to use the On-The-Go playlist function. I'll explain...

When I have some friends round, I use an iTrip and then the iPod gets passed around, whilst running the On-The-Go playlist. The idea being that we can all browse and add things to the play list, just like a real jukebox. The problem is though that someone, no matter how many times they have been told, will see a track they like and press the select button once (not hold it down), this causes the iPod to stop playing the On-The-Go playlist and play that track only. Or someone will press the pause button by mistake and then try to get it off of pause by pressing it again, but this is whilst they are browsing for other music, so when they press the play/pause button again, they simply start whatever they were browsing on.

They used to say it was a Jukebox, but really for this to be so, we really could do with a Jukebox mode, which would allow the adding of tunes to the "Jukebox playlist" with a single click of the select button.

Just an idea I thought I'd share, as the On-The-Go feature really is clunky and a real after-thought on the part of Apple.

:-)

You could be describing a drive with my friends and an iPod...

And when it happens, there is no easy way to get back to the on-the-go again.
On the other hand it's funny sometimes. Always try to be positive.

I never realized how much this small function is wanted, I kinda told my friend it doesn't work. I am glad he asked me to ask the experts, seems like an important cool feature we'd all benefit from.

I wrote it, thanks for that perfect way of putting it. It makes total sense.

Hi
I've begun a habit that isn't as perfect but works. After initiating the current long that I'm listening to, I back out to the menu and find my next song...I don't click on it though. Than, why your current song is very near over, just press Menu and Select.

Half-baked but it's been fine for me.

The old Archos MP3 players used to do that ... it was called "queing" and my favorite feature of that player. You could be listening to a song, browse your library and select and "mark" a song to play next. It would que up and then play when the current song was finished. And you could do that over and over. I loved that feature! I haven't seen another one do that yet.

Pam :)

Well I'm humbled by your reposting of my words. There are a lot of things that could be improved on the iPod, very simple things that could be achieved in a few lines of code. But these tend to be on the newer models only, as someone on one of these threads has already mentioned I'm sure. Apple after all are out to make money just like every other corporation.

Seems its a bit like 'party shuffle' in itunes. Would be a very good feature.
