Lost everything on Ipod photo

Hi everyone. Ive had my ipod photo for about six months without problems. tonight i had it plugged into my computer with itunes open playing music. When i unplugged it while i was closing itunes for the night i lost everything. After i turned it back on five seconds after pulling out the cord my entire 1200+ songs were deleted. I tried putting my computer back on and no luck. First to answer the obvious i dont have the automatic update to library feature checked, so it wasnt that. I literally stopped the song that was playing and unplugged the cord and that was that. Any ideas on what went wrong, or even the smallest chance of a solution?
Thanks so much
Tim

On the iPod go to settings>about and see if the space is being use still. If it is then the songs are on the iPod and not showing on the screen. You will need to reset the iPod and the songs should be display.

When I went back to itunes it said the memory was down from 4gigs to 32 megs. It also cleared all playlists and even the name of the ipod back to owners ipod. I checked out your topic on recovery and am currently analyzing the hard drive of the ipod with handy recovery. Hopefully that will work...any ideas why it happened?
