Help with iPod + iTunes Auto update!

I recently bought my first iPod (it's a 60gb photo) and a Powermac G5, also my first mac. Long story short I have noob tattooed on my forehead with all this stuff. I'm very tech and computer savy, but the deep interworkings of anything Apple I don't know much of. Anyways, I say this to say that I am having a problem...

When I plug in my iPod (I have it set on Autoupdate) it begins to update then after about 500 songs it fails. I am attempting to copy my whole 50gb library to my new iPod. It is very tedious when ever 500 songs it fails and I have to right click (apple+click) my iPod icon in the iTunes Source Menu (left menu) and click "Update". Which means I have to babysit my iPod, which can't be done due to this probably taking many many hours to update. This is very annoying. Anyone know HOW or WHY it would be doing this? Any help, please!

My e-mail is Jesseseth@hotmail.com

I am in dire need of your help or any sort of response. Please do help a guy out.

welcome to the lounge :)

what a way to start your mac adventure... a 60Gb iPod and a PowerMac ;)

first off i'd try and reset (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705) your iPod to see if that helps.

if that doesn't then try a factory restore (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705). also make a note of any other error messages that do appear.

also try and use the firewire ports instead of usb2 - much quicker on macs...my 27gb will take about 45 minutes to transfer from my PowerBook to iPod, so yours should take less than 2 hours total.

btw can you please not cross post (http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7588). thanks!

It's still randomly popping up after about 300 songs and giving me a error messages that says,"iPod could not be read or written to." This is so weird. I just got this. I bought the iPod, then had to return it because it wouldn't turn off. This is my 2nd in under two weeks. I hope this one isn't broke as well.

you can try the factory restore, but it that doesn't work then try alternating with different usb2 ports. failing that i'd try and return it and maybe even ask apple for a fw cable (which they should include).

I went to Apple and they said that my USB 2.0 is faster then a firewire cable. He said that my friend having dropped a ton of music on my iTunes library probably has a lot to do with it. He said that corrupt audio files and such spook/freak out iTunes/iPod. Apparently, iTunes is very sensitive to legal vs. illegal means of getting music and if it thinks that something was aquired illegally it will do that. So... I'm just going to go about the tedious task of figuring out what songs were aquired legally and which he bootleged and then hopefully I will have a purified iPod + iTunes library.

If I come up with anymore problems I will be back to request some help.

Anyways, if any moderators are reading this I'd like to give mad props to this website and forum. I just discovered this site about five days ago and it's really nice.
