U2 iPod
I'm thinking of getting a U2 iPod for a very close friend of mine. I've been close friends with her for a number of years. Anywhoozle. I'm thinking about giving it on Christmas. U2 is her favorite band. Bunch of hippie commies if you ask me. Anyways, I'm curious about this 447 songs thing. I maybe mistaken, but the impression I get that it comes loaded with all these songs. But when I look at the site it says 50 bucks off the complete U2 collection.
So does it come loaded with the music or do you have to buy it?
Secondly, she has a boyfriend, and I'm not trying to diminish his influence (though she is hot and I am better than he is ;) ), but do you think this maybe going to far?
If I don't get the U2 iPod for her, then I'll prolly buy the Nano for her.
Money isn't a concern here.
That reminds me I'm gonna wait til Nov to get an iPod for myself I am really anticipating that the 5th gens may come out before christmas.

yeah i really think that you should buy it for her, as for the music collection i'm not really sure about that. but if she's a U2 fan she should already have their albums. another thing wait until october is over and see if there's really a 5th generation that comes out. can you post a picture of yourself her and her boyfriend?

Anyways, buying someone an iPod isn't going too far at all. Now chocolate and some roses - you've got problems.
As for the songs, when you buy the U2 iPod, you get a $50 discount for the U2 collection on iTunes. No songs are preloaded here (that would be illegal anyway). Sorry.

Well I dunno, I suppose I could post pictures, but I'd have to find some first. lol. I know she has a couple in some community webshots thingie.
Anyways. I discussed it with another friend and he told me not go that far, because if she stops being my friend there's 300 bucks down the drain.:(
# 4 Re: U2 iPod
You're still down '300 bucks' if she keeps being your friend though....

# 5 Re: U2 iPod
right iMacc what's her web page address?
# 6 Re: U2 iPod
Well I mean like I don't want it to be waste exactly. I want to see her enjoy it. I may be 300 bucks poorer, but atleast I'm getting my money's worth, sorta. Yeah. Shut up. :p
# 7 Re: U2 iPod
if she's a music enthusiest then she'll like an iPod.
# 8 Re: U2 iPod
Thats the thing, I don't know. Anyways I'll get to you later on that address thing. Prolly tomorrow after class. I'd ask her, but she doesn't have her cell with her as she visits her boyfriend at college. She wants to "be left alone" so she can spend quality cuddling-love-cute- time with him. Because last week was her birthday and she didn't get to spend any alone time with him.
# 9 Re: U2 iPod
i really think you should buy it for her, if you think she's hot and she's your friend and also likes U2 along with liking music then buy it for her.
# 10 Re: U2 iPod
you said your friends withher for a long time why do u think you going to stop being friends with here and if u never buy stuff for nayone cuz they may stop being ur friend yougoignto end up with 'cheep' around your name, and her wife will nor have a ring ;). You send $$$ was no issue then get it, its a very nice gift
How can u be a communist and a hippie? U2 is niether!!

# 11 Re: U2 iPod
I would get your friend a iPod nano as a full sized iPod may look bad from the boyfriend's perspective. Hell, I wouldn't buy an iPod for any of my friends. The U2 iPod will come with a $50 discount off of the $150 U2 digital box set.
As for the 5G iPods, NO ONE knows when they will come out. I highly doubt Apple will release a new generation iPod for the holiday season as it would go in direct competition with the iPod nano for the holiday sales. I am theorizing that Apple is going to release a new generation iPod some time next year as the 20GB color iPod has only been out for a few months.

I agree. In my experience, an iPod is not something that you buy for friends. I have not spent over $20 for a gift for a friend and I mostly get them a CD or a six pack on their birthdays.
# 14 Re: U2 iPod
i meant that you're right because if she stops being his friend he's gonna be 300 dollars poorer. and if she's still his firend he's still 300 dollars poorer. i really think you should buy it for her.
# 15 Re: U2 iPod
but what if it's someone like say bill gates and he gave out ipod nano's in goodie bags and then for someone's birthday he bought them something like a new computer along with goodie bags then huh? what do you have to say about that kornchild2002
# 16 Re: U2 iPod
ipodphoto30, you aren't making any ####ing sense. To me, and no offense to the OP, it just sounds more like desparation from reading the posts containing sarcasism about his friend and her boyfriend. All I am saying is that the boyfriend may perceive this as something else eventhough the OP may not mean it as something else (from reading his posts it seems like it might be something else). An iPod is a expensive gift that the boyfriend should give her, not a regular friend. If I gave one of my friends an iPod, they would look at me like I am strange and want something more. Additionally there boyfriends would probably want to beat the #### out of me simply because I was able to give a better gift than they could.
# 17 Re: U2 iPod
You should just get her an iPod Nano, a full size iPod makes it look like your trying to show the boyfriend up.
# 18 Re: U2 iPod
actually yes now it's more clear to me now. but come on she likes U2 and there happens to be U2 iPod's on the market so just buy it for her. as for the boyfriend just say that you've been friends with her too long.
# 19 Re: U2 iPod
I say buy the U2 pod.
She'll enjoy it more than anything else ;).
# 20 Re: U2 iPod
Hmm, she's saying she wants time alone with her boyfriend.
Are you sure you are not overplaying the friendship and have a hidden desire for her that may not be reciprocal?
I'm just saying this coming from the girl's point of view ... I had a guy friend that kept buying me gifts and it freaked the #### out of me.
# 21 Re: U2 iPod
Well christmas last year, I got her a model car of her favourite car. 69 GTO Judge. 50 bucks.
Then for my birthday she got me a book on Abraham Lincoln. 30 dollar book.
For her birthday not that long ago she only wanted a hug from me, and I'm not sure why. So I gave her that, and before that I took her out sorta on a date, to a test/proving grounds near me. She liked doing 150 in a Ford GT. Albeit it is kinda intimidating. Especially letting go of the steering wheel. That was her gift, but I had to be 2 months pre-emptive (it was scheduling thing). I have people everywhere who can hook me up with anything, it's kinda funny. She had fun, and it's somehting very very very few people get to do in their lives. In January I'm taking her to the autoshow on the preview day, before the public show (press day). Free tickets. lol.
Anyways, as for freaking her out, I don't think I would be, she does have a problem though about people spending money on her. She sometiems gets really frustrated when I pay for everything, same thing with her boyfriend. He's gotten the idea of paying half or less, because she's just that prideful I guess. I dunno. She prefers to spend her own money. I don't know why. For like most of the summer she wouldn't let me pay for anything, even if I had more than sufficient funds. She's odd like that. It's funny though because her friend got her a refurbished PS2 for like 90 bucks or something. Then her boyfriend hooked her up with 4 games. She didn't complain about either. I think she maybe concerned about is that I have a tendency to overkill on things. A Nano seems like a logical option, I just got the entire U2 collection off bittorrent last night anyways. Yeah I'm a cheap #######.
No she doesn't have many if really any female freinds. She doesn't liek girls, because they're too whiney for her, so all she has is guy friends. I've met most of them. So when I said she wanted time aloe with her boyfriend I meant that she hardly gets to see him, and when she does, it's usually with her friends at her side. So no kissing or cuddling or pda, and she wanted some of that this passed weekend. So she didn't bring any of her friends, who are good friends with her boyfriend as well, except me, because I think we can figure it out. The whole irony of the situation is that I met her sometime well before her boyfriend, yet I dismissed her at first, and that it was just within the last two years that I really got to know her. I had to been to her house before that, and stuff, but neevr really liked bothered getting clsoe to her, until my I guess you would say my girlfriend decided to #### me over and cheat on me with my best friend at prom night. Though officially we weren't going out, we had been hanging out daily and we did flirt often, dates, and stuff. So technically I can say I never had a girlfriend, and that impresses people, because supposedly a lot of girls find me hot. I'm not being cocky about that. Anyways yea. I dunno if it would be overkill, I could get her Xbox 360 (for cheap too, don't ask). But that seems like overkill, because that's a entire media center. She likes vidoegames though.
# 22 Re: U2 iPod
Ok, well it seems like it's mutual. You are both spending money on each other and I can certainly relate to the male friend part. That's why I made the comment in case she was one of those "taker" type chicks who would use you up.
I really would hate to see some poor guy spend $300 on an ipod that some chicks would take and use with their boyfriends .. and possibly ruin the friendship.
I would probably stick to a nano or a smaller price mp3 player of some sort just to keep it real.
Good luck.
# 23 Re: U2 iPod
Whatever you decide dude, hope it works out well enough for you.
# 24 Re: U2 iPod
that really touched me. well but i still say get her the U2 iPod. just do it now no more thinking about it,run to your local best buy and just go buy it now! then when it's time just give it to her and say i hope you like it.
# 25 Re: U2 iPod
ironically, if you actually want to date this girl your best plan is to start going out with other girls to make her a little jealous. let her know you're interested but don't wait around for her. eventually she will be available.
being the boyfriend who's not the boyfriend is a really bad plan. girls don't really respect that. you're also giving her no incentive to break up with her boyfriend because you're taking care of all of the platonic boyfriend duties for him.

Yeah, have to agree with that. :p
# 27 Re: U2 iPod
I've thought of that, but see. Here's the deal. I have extremely high standards. I will not go out with a random girl that I don't really like.
For example. I do not drink whatsoever, and I do not smoke at all. Now can you find a girl who doesn't at all with either one? Now make her beautiful and not stupid. Then add in religious and conservative influence. Now add in not a whore.
See.
Even then why would I want to deal with the fact that I'd be dating some girl and only for the reason, to make myself look good. I mean I'm dealing with someone else's emotions and I'm not with faking love, or w/e. I tend to be a very cold person, until I get to know someone. But if I have no itnerest in them in the first place, theres no reason for me to become 'warm". I dunno.

Unless she's your long lost relative, I would never spend $300 on a friend.
Unless there were alterior motives involved...

You are the most nieve and insolent fool in this forum... Grow up, what are you some 9 year old trying to give advice? jesus dude. now, first of all, she has a boyfriend, and the likelyhood of her dumping her bf for a iPod is very very unlekly. your going to have to make her want you over time. and eventually make it clear to her that you dont want to wait any longer. if she doesnt have any intention of going out w/ you or hooking up w/ u w/e then its very likely that you will be waiting for a long time buddy. sorry I was sick of all these ppl telling you nonsense... second of all, we are completly off the subject of the iPod. well not exactly but still this has turned into a soap opera and it shouldnt go on too much longer, ipodphoto30 stop telling this dude bullsh** I'm sick of it.
