can i return my ipod to the apple store within 7 days for scratches?

im 5 days into my black 60gb ipod and i love the little ####### but silly me i took off all the protective covering on the first day thinking the provided case would be sufficient protection against bumps and scratches, then all my relatives and friends wanted to hold it and watch videos and lo and behold, somewhere in the meley the little pod came out with some bad scratches on the screen aswell. tommorrow is the 6th day of purchase, can i take it back for an exchange because it scratches so easily? and more importantly, will i have to pay the restocking fee for a returned scratched ipod?

im gonna call the store tommorrow anyway to check but just thought id get some info from those who might already have experienced this.

guess you have a point. im gonna call them tommorrow anyway and see if its possible, i'll say the thing was scratched just by handling it within the first few hours, which it was. im 99% sure they won't accept an exchange, but it's worth a try.

ultimately my own fault for being careless with it to start with. guess ill have to invest in some brasso or whatever its called.

Doesn't matter how much you pay for your items, you handle them all in the way they should be handled.

MP3 players run in the $200-400 range. So even if you paid $200 for shoes or $200 for the cheapest ipod, you still wouldn't make an effort to mess up either of them.

Why would you run your fingernail against a $400 piece of equipment (or purposely step in a mud puddle)? :confused:

they won't let you return it because of cosmetic reasons. also another thing is apple warranty doesn't cover for the battery life. Why dont' you just buff out the scratches using brasso?

Alright so I walked in and went to the checkout counter to ask if I coul exchange my ipod because I was having numerous problems such as battery life, locking up and also scratches (2 of these things were lies). The lady told me that I had to go through the genius bar before I could exchange it. Once I met with a genius she asked me what my battery life was. I told her 10 to 15 hours. She was said it was pretty good if i were getting those times, but i was persistant in saying that it was not the advertised battery life. So she said that i could leave my ipod overnight and they would test it or i could return it. I asked again if I could exchange and she went to ask her manager. Her manager said yes and she asked me what I wanted to do. I exchanged it and walked out happy but again feeling guilty. Hope this helps.

You people are ridiculous. It's YOUR OWN FAULT if your freakin' iPod got scratched. And then you lie about it to get a new one? You're just going to scratch that one up too, since you're obviously careless with your possessions. If you cared so much about scratches, maybe you should've put it in a case.

I can't believe people actually SUED Apple for scratches on the iPod nano. Scratches don't make the thing unusable. It's like people think their iPod should be invincible or something. Who cares how much you paid for it? Scratches are a well-known problem with iPods. You KNEW what you were getting, and nobody forced you to hand over your money. And you have the nerve to say it's Apple's fault, and then lie to get yet another of their supposedly flawed products?

the previous ipods did not get scratched so easily. removing a piece of dust from the ipod with a cotton t-shirt WILL scratch it.

i bought it knowing this but for those who didnt it would be a very very unsettling discovery, especially after payign a small fortune for them.

for the premium that you're paying for this thing over similarly equipped mp3 players it had better be close to invincibile. at the very least, not getting worse than before, which is the case at the moment

so if you get a scratch on your car, do you sue the dealer/manufacturer? learn to take care of your stuff.

I have owned ipods since 3g and they all scratch . . . guess this is your first ipod since you dont know this already.

i've had mine in a case since i've opened it. i'm talking about ones i've handled at the apple store. and strangely when i removed my ipod out of the case just once, i saw a few minute scratches at the edges.

o and btw if u dont have the newer ipods i dont think u would be qualified, with all due respect, to talk about severity of scratches.

but if u do, im sure we'd all like to know your secret.
