Bugger, 12mb a min for me then :(

[Edit]
or is it per sec?

1.2 MB/sec theoretical maximum, although it never reaches that.

USB 1 is 12 Mbps but MB is not megabyte but megabit!

1 Byte = 8 Bits

For approximation purposes, 1 byte is 10 bits. As I said, it still never reaches that speed anyway.

Can you burn CD's dirctly to your iPod, rather than CD->HD->iPod using iTunes?

How could you burn a CD to an iPod? What is your overall goal?

edit: Unless you mean rip a CD, which is not easily (you would have to enable disk use, but you would still have two copies anyway).

Sorry, rip. I am going to use disk mode all the time anyway, why would it have two copies?

The iPod stores all songs in its own file naming format (indexed internally). You cannot drag-and-drop an MP3 onto the hard drive as a file in disk mode and have it play. When you sync your iPod, files are copied to this format to the iPod's ipod_control folder.

I know. I mean using iTunes can you import a CD directly to the iPod without having to go threw the Hard Disk first?

Not with iTunes certainly, and not that I know of at all. If you sync manually, you can rip to your hard drive, update the iPod, and then delete from your hard drive.

Except that a new iPod is USB 2.0 which is 480Mbps (60MBps).
In reality, you'll saturate the internal memory interface before reaching that value.
