Disconnecting while still Buisy? cant get it to Stop!
Hey all.. I got my 5G.. love it, no problems. I dont need it to run for 15 days straight on one battery charge... lol.. so no issues. i bought it for the music, with the video as a "Free Bonus" and the extra 10 GB over the 4G... Anyway. Hooked up and works great!! no problems.. just cant get it to EVER eject!! its says "cannot disconnect cause it contains files in use by another program"
What other program? all i have on it is music... and a couple pictures..i have NOTHING running in the task window.. or on winpatrol.. cant figure it out. Ive used Musicmatch in the past.. and bought some songs on there.. and converted them (Had to burn them onto CD) Im just throwing out idea's..
Anyone have any ideas on what to check? Thanks... and GREAT WEBSITE!! love the podcasts and really really enjoying my 5G... (I converted from a Iriver H10.. good player, but doesnt hold a candle)
# 2 Re: Disconnecting while still Buisy? cant get it to Stop!
I got a 5G/60GB last week, and for the first couple days, I was mighty confused. I recently upgraded to a Dell that wouldn't accomodate a FireWire card (not relevant, I found out later), and the PC has plenty of USB 2.0 ports.
So I bought another 2.0-capable hub and plugged in my mouse and keyboard along with a Palm Lifedrive cradle together with my old dock (and using the USB cable I got with the video).
The short version: even though I have "Enable Disk Use" unchecked, every time I drop my iPod in my dock, or fire up iTunes (while the iPod is in the dock) the iPod shows up as a disk drive. At first, I thought this was weird but a non-issue: but then I noticed that "Do Not Disconnect" seemed to ALWAYS be blinking.
I ran the iPod updater once, then again, and then again. Finally everything seems to be working -- it syncs, the disk drive icon disappears, and I can (eventually) remove the iPod safely without any smoke or mirrors or worries.
Make sure you've run the iPod updater. What I've found is that other USB devices might affect the speed (not only of the syncs but of recognition of the iPod being dropped in the cradle), but if you've set up the iPod properly on your system, it should be sync'ing and then merely charging.
One quick note: aside from the significant speed differences (if any) between firewire and USB 2.0, I think it's not quite as efficient in handling the iPod/PC relationship as Firewire. The tradeoff, however, is that you don't need to have a Firewire card in the PC. I've got two external drives, but both are Firewire/USB2.0 capable, so the extra space in the case is a plus, despite the minor headache this situation provides.
Good luck...hope this helps...
