From one iPod to another?

Hey guys, my bro has a 30gig iPod photo and I just got my 60gig video iPod. I have a few gigs worth of music on my comp downstairs and he has a few more gigs on his comp upstairs. I want to be able to have him bring his ipod downstairs and load his songs onto my comp so I can put them into itunes and load them onto my ipod. It seems like itunes automatically updates the ipod so I dont want him to connect to my comp and have all of his songs erased and replaced with my songs. Is there a way to do this?

BTW: If there is any question of legality, we have both spent money on these songs and there would be no outside parties or whatever.

The simplest way that comes to mind is to have the same copies of music on each computer, or put the music on one computer and share it over the network (slower). It could be difficult, though, if you bought the music off the iTunes Music Store due to the built-in DRM.

You can also choose in iTunes to sync each iPod manually, although personally I prefer automatic synchronization.

I dont currently have a network setup as my bro brings his comp over every once in a while. The songs are not from the itunes music store and cds are all at his house but hes not gonna haul all of the cds over when he comes which is why the ipod is so much more convenient. Come on guys there's gotta be a way, surely apple in all of it's wisdom has thought of such a thing :)

Download the trial version of Podplus (fully functional but time expiration). It allows you to copy music off your Ipod and even has a temporary disable of the Automatic library sync in Itunes. You see that feature as you start up Podplus.

Copy your stuff off with Podplus then just burn it all from C:\Podplus directory on your computer, hope over to your brother's computer with the cd or dvd and put the stuff in his library.

I just bought it today after trying it. Worth the $15 for disaster situations and things like you describe. Also does movie listing, Outlook contacts, weather and such.
