Scratching on the black? Anyone?

(I think this is the right section...) I read the review and it said that it "appears" the black Ipod doesn't scratch easy. However, many people on this forum have said it gets scratched just "taking it out of the cheap case it comes in."

I really want to get the 60 gigabit black Ipod. I also freak out when my electronics get scratched. (I mean... I have serious issues about scratches) My questions are:

1) Do the clear protective film strips work well? If so, which ones?

2) How much better is it to get an Ipod wallet?

3) Do the scratch removal products work well? (which do you prefer?)

Thanks!

P.S.
I hope I posted this in the right section. And sorry for any gramatical errors. It's not my best subject.

wow it really sounds like u are one anal retentive guy with ocd...haha jk but yea

regular thin pda films are best for protecting the screen

ipod wallets are a waste of money get an iskin LOL (its whatever floats your boat)

scratch removal products like ice cream, ikleaner, and iclear are good ones to work with...but brasso a $3 bottle works just as well...but it takes some time with brasso...there is a tutorial on it online if you just google search it

Hmm, but a PDA cover would only be able to cover my screen (unless you do some serious modeling on that little sheet of stick paper...) correct?

P.S. I'm not a guy... lol, I'm only 15 =S

I have it in black.

It scratches. I'm anal retentive to, and have been taking a microfiber cloth to it to clean it...

The microfiber scratched it. It was an old cloth, so I suppose it had some... I dunno... dust of microscopic dirt or whatever. I went and bough t a brand new cloth today and that seems to be faring better.

Bottom line, though, is that it does scratch easily in my 2 days of experience. I've ordered films...

im guessing black and white ipods are made of the same material,
they have the same tendency to scratch

scratches just show up more on black surfaces

I have a U2 iPod and it scratches very easily. Luckily I have a Contour case to protect it. I'll have to wait for a case to become available for my 5G 30GB. I need to get my iPod first though - won't even ship until next week. Doh!

Falcon,

If you wanted a full-protection invisible film, there seem to have been a lot of good things said about the Invisible Shield. You might want to check out this lengthy forum thread (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117845) or these installation instructions (http://www.rainydaymagazine.com/RDM2005/GearNGadgets/September2005/RDMGG_InvisibleShieldFirstLook.htm) and see if you think it will work for you. It's supposed to be very tough -- and tough to put on, but I think it will be worth it. I've already ordered one for my 30GB black, so I'll post my experiences and thoughts once I get it on.

I'd rather spend the extra minutes getting a applying clear protectant for my ipod versus spending more money and frustration buying scratch remover.

Microscopic scratches happen. So what if you iPod gets scratched? You buy an iPod for the music, or at least I'd hope you do. If you're buying it just because it's a cool gadget, it's not for you.

Well now that it has video capability your point is kinda weak.

oh, sorry my mistake...heh anyways with the PDA film if u get enough u can make a little template on paper and test out the size and shape than do a final on the pda film to cover it

i like cases better than film strips just because if it drops then it still has a bit of protection with film strips i guess it could break or something. i like using brasso to remove scratches from the back of my ipod.
