What a lot of the Reviews are missing
I think from reading alot of the reviews they are missing the point of this Ipod. I've ordered a 60gb Black 5G. I currently have a PSP. I've been frustrated with the PSP because the Memory Stick video really exhibits bad ghosting and smearing, also the colors are a bit dull. Also it's not entirely portable and forget watching it outside or in a brightly lit vehicle because you'll be staring at your puss in the mirror like finish of the screen. I'm hoping the 5G will handle outside viewing better, but I know it will be more portable.
THe whole notion of a Portable video player is that it's easy to flip it into your shirt pocket and pull it out for quick viewing.. THe ipod will do this. And it's let obtusive than having the PSP being held by both hands.
Add to this the integration with Itunes and having the ability to quickly drag and drop the appropriately named vid file it huge and much better than trying to keep a file named M4V0010.mp4 in it's own subfolder so you can tell what it's actually is.
When Apple makes a bigger player I'll probably upgrade for me right now it makes more to have something handy in the flip of a pocket

what my friend says who bought it that the video quality on the ipod is worse than a psp, and the ghosting is there too. I find it funny that none of the reviews comment on video quality. it is infact a VIDEO ipod. they should be reviewing it for that.

Except that there is no ghosting on mine, so it's not unreasonable to assume that either your friend got some sort of a lemon (although it's hard to conceive of how a LCD display showing decompressed digital images suffers from a problem related to monitors/televisions utilising a CRT), he's blaming the iPod for poorly encoded video, or even just as likely, your friend is just full of it.
I have no idea what a PSP looks like playing video, but I do know that there is zero issue with the video quality on my 5G and presumably the reviewers'.

I think most the reviews are spot on. What they are missing is a durability test.
Video is ok on the ipod. I did notice the colors were a bit weird. Video quality on the psp is alot better than the ipod. Its just the psp is just too big to carry around comfortably.

i had a psp (sold it right away once i got the vid ipod) and it played video very nicely but the size of that console is big so it was hard for me to carry it around. Plus it's limited in storage space (have to fork out money for memories expansions).
i'm loving my vid ipod because it is more portable than the psp and i get 60gig in my hand instead of keep buying memory sticks for it.
i have no problems with the video quality on psp nor video ipod.

The PSP displays better video because of its gorgeous, large screen, but where are you going to put it? Memory runs about $100 per GB! Your only realistic option is to stick with UMDs, which cost $20 (or more) each. Really, there's no comparing the video iPod and PSP for video playback. I love my PSP, and it excels at gaming (particularly at running emulators), but it's useless as a video player IMHO. As for comparing the iPod to dedicated video players like the Zen Vision, that's kind of missing the point. The iPod provides exactly what I want, something that I can slip into my pocket and listen to music on while I'm doing other things, but take out every once in a while to watch video when I get some downtime. The iPod really isn't meant to compete with those types of video players.

psp blows, as does metal gear acid and most of the other games
