Can yo uuse the same remote with multiple docks?

ie, if I have 1 dock with my pc used for syncing music etc.. and one dock in the main room used for listening to the music via home stereo, can i use the same remote on them?

i heard something about the remote has to be paired to the dock (even though it's only using IR and not bluetooth)
