Can iPod read my chinese characters
My songs are in chinese, and my computer's region to Taiwan which uses Traditional chinese characters. (Under my "Language for non-unicode programs" I set it to taiwan) I'm just worried cause if I burn the songs and see them on a English computer, then the characters appeared messed up.
So my question is will the iPod be able to see the chinese characters?

I believe so..

it NEEDS to be unicode to work. so, short answer is: no. you might be able to find a converter to convert non-unicode taiwanese id3 tags to unicode. i had looked into doing this a long time ago, but eventually gave up to due to complexity.
assuming your songs are from legitimate cd's, though, you can re-import them with itunes, and itunes should properly download id3 tags. i've tried this with many rare import japanese cd's, and itunes has always found the proper unicode japanese album info. on my ipod, these songs display the japanese and chinese characters perfectly, even tho main language is set to english (ahhh, the wonders of unicode!)

in that case, I don't believe so..
# 4 Re: Can iPod read my chinese characters
Is there a way to test if my tags are in unicode or not?

Are your songs showing up in iTunes with chinese characters? iTunes is a unicode-aware application, so if iTunes is displaying them then the iPod will.
The "language for non-unicode applications" is probably a secondary option on your computer telling other applications what language OS you are using.

Well, yes my iTunes sees them as Chinses characters, but if I change my Language encoding back to english, then they turn back into jibberish. This is what I'm afraid will happen if I get an ipod. I don't wanna spend $300 to find out that half my songs can't be read.
:(

Um... I don't know what you mean... How do you use "IME"?

Ipod will show chinese text right along side english without any tweaking. I have several hundred songs with Chinese tags. Simply put, if it shows up in iTunes, it will show up on your Ipod.

iPOD's language option isn't a gimmick, it really works. Whether u can mix languages I dunno.
