mpg to m4v

i have some music vids in mpeg format which play fine in quicktime - but tried converting to ipod mv4 using export and it did not keep the sound - i exported .movs just fine - what's the deal or how can i do this - thx in advance

What version of Quicktime do you have? 7.0.3 is required for iTunes 6. A lot of MPEG videos have the video and sound on the same track, so converting them to another MPEG format drops the audio but keeps the video. Not sure why .MOV works for you, but since it's a different format entirely it's probably able to keep the combined audio and video tracks straight.

i'm totally up to date on software - but i saw somewhere that the ipod will play mpgs since quicktime handles - not sure if trueBeyondBeyond at 2007-11-15 12:47:34 >
