Does it scratch like a nano?
Well, this is one of my final queries. Is the new iPod going to scratch as easily as the nano?
I am assuming that it will, since it looks like it's basically the same design as the nano, only bigger.

well it may or may not, after all the scratching complaints on the nano, i would say they could've revised it and look over their materials, even though they claim to have use the same material as they've always been using on ipods.
it could scratch just as easily, because apple could have just ignored the scratch complaints and just use the same new material as on the nano, we'll find out when people review it and get their new ipod.

Yeah, no one has it yet, so I would wait a couple of days for these types of questions.

The only people who could tell us this would be the people who had time with the new iPod. I already ordered mine from apple.com so i cant wait to find out.

realistically, I think it probably will.
Even if they addressed the problem of the nanos, I would think that these new ipods and the nanos were probably made in the same production run since only a couple weeks seperated their release. Which means, that even if they reacted to the complaints about the nano, the first run of 5g ipods probably wouldnt reflect any changes.
just my thoughs on the matter

From pictures it looks like a different surface then the nano it doesnt seem to have that black and a layer of plastic, But we cant find out until someone reports about it.

Just found some more information on this.
BenZor from OCAU forums stated that "The video casing is the same as a 4gen. It's perfectly fine and scratch reisistant."

They are all going to scratch. It just depends on how well you have it protected. Mine almost never leaves the case and looking under it I have no noticeable scratches.

Sure, but I was specifically talking about scratching like the nano.

my personal theory is that nano's don't scratch any worse than 4g ipod's, the scratches are just more noticeable because the unit is smaller (hence the scratch "appears" bigger) and because many people have black nano's. apple themselves have said that its the same polycarbonate. i've tried scratching both my nano and 3g ipod (which is lucite, i believe, not polycarbonate, i.e. lexan) and am unable to get a scratch on either... so i really don't think the nano scratches more than 4g ipod (or mac mini's, emacs, or imacs, which also all use polycarbonate coatings). polycarbonate is also supposed to be one of the most durable plastics available. look it up on wikipedia or something.

I think it's got the same stuff as the nano. I remember hearing that somwhere, or reading. Must have been here on ilounge. That's why I ordered the white, and plan to get a case asap.

from the first look article on ilounge:
The iPods old clear plastic front is back. As we suspected when we saw iPod nano, Apple has reverted back to using a thick layer of clear plastic on top of its white or black base colored plastics, a design which unfortunately has the tendency to show scratches. Like nano. Well see whether 5G is nano-esque when we have it in our own hands, but the potentials there.
