Exchange old for new?

You guys think Apple will let me exchange my 2-week old 20 GB iPod for the 30 GB video iPod? I'm sure some other people are wondering the same thing as me...

I have a feeling that they won't do it but if I'd known the video iPod was coming out this soon, I would've waited. As it stands, I barely even used my iPod because I waited so long for my Power Support case to come... :(

It doesn't hurt to ask. Why not just call them up and find out for yourself?

If they won't, then just be happy with what you have, or sell it for a loss and buy a new one.

Yeah, well I sent them a quick e-mail before I posted this thread up. I was just hoping to see if anyone had the same question and already got an answer directly from Apple. I'll give them a call when I have the time but it was quicker to type than to sit and wait for a Apple rep to come on the line.

Call them on the phone... They will probably let you send it back, BUT you will get charged 10% re-stocking for open merch.

10% is worth it if you really want it... and isn't your computer's usb port a power source?

Yeah, I was skimming through their refund policy last night before I posted but wasn't really sure if they'd take it back if you got the laser engraving on it, which I have.

About the USB comment, yeah, sure, it's powered if your device needs it. I don't know what it has to do with this thread...

EDIT: Oh, I see you returned your 20 GB iPod for, I'm assuming, the new iPod. Did you have the laser etching on yours, too? I wouldn't mind taking the 10% hit because I can get 10% off with my school discount on the new one. So if they let me do it, I'll just be paying MSRP for the new one. The only thing that sucks is that I'll have a useless Power Support Crystal Jacket now if I do it...

I was thinking about sending mine back - two weeks old also - but I have reservations about the quality (as I've just posted in 'who wants to watch video files on an ipod?'.
Does anyone know the period in which you can send your iPod back for a new one?

See, for me, it doesn't even matter that it can play videos. I don't even look at or plan to look at pictures in my current iPod. It's just that the new one has 10 more GB of space at the same price, is thinner, has a bigger screen, and, well, it's newer. :p

I was also a little concerned about the quality of the unit since this is the first of what's probably going to be a long run, but I figure that if something does happen, there's always the warranty. I use the iPod often enough that if there are problems, it would probably fall within the warranty period.

BTW, is the new iPod wider than the current one?

It's either 10 days or 14 days at the Apple retail store. Online should be about the same, but may be a few more days to account for shipping. 10% restocking fee.

But, if Apple engraved it, you own it. No returns unless it bears a defect covered under warranty.
